Veterinary Assistant - Oncology - AVS Santa Barbara
  Advanced Veterinary Specialists, located in beautiful Santa Barbara, is a premier specialty and emergency veterinary hospital committed to providing exceptional care to pets in need. . We offer a range of specialized services, including internal medicine, surgery, cardiology, oncology, and emergency care, delivered by a team of dedicated professionals.
We are currently seeking a Veterinary Assistant to join our Oncology team The ideal candidate will have a strong passion for animal care, excellent communication skills, and a desire to work in a fast-paced veterinary clinic. As a Veterinary Assistant, you will play a crucial role in assisting our veterinarians and supporting our clients throughout their pet's treatment processes.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist veterinarians with examinations, surgeries, and medical procedures.
  • Handle and restrain animals during procedures and treatments.
  • Perform laboratory tests and diagnostic procedures under the supervision of veterinarians.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of examination rooms, treatment areas, and surgical suites.
  • Provide compassionate care and support to clients and their pets.
  • Administer medications and treatments as directed by veterinarians.
  • Assist with client communication and education on pet care and treatment plans.
Compensation range: $18.00 - $26.00 hr primarily determined by role and experience level.
Work schedule:
  • 4/10 work week
  • Weekend and holiday flexibility required.

Basic required qualifications:
  • General understanding and experience with small animal restraint with a focus on cats and dogs
  • High school diploma
  • Calm, professional demeanor.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Reliable time management and problem-solving skills; working efficiently and effectively throughout the hospital.
  • Multi-task various duties and responsibilities in a timely and reliable manner, with appropriate follow-through and accuracy.
  • Understand and follow established hospital processes and procedures (i.e. SOPs)
  • Able to work well independently as well as with a team.
  • Basic understanding of veterinary medical terminology.

Preferred qualifications:
  • Enrolled in a veterinary technology program.
  • Clinical experience working/interning in a veterinary hospital.
