Job Description

Veterinary Assistant - Cross Training Opportunity

Department: Veterinary Assistants

Employment Type: Full Time

Location: Johns Island, South Carolina

Compensation: $16.00 - $18.00 / hour

At Sun Dog Cat Moon Veterinary Clinic, we believe great veterinary care starts with seeing the whole pet—and the whole person caring for them.

Our team blends traditional veterinary medicine, Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM), and complementary therapies to create a thoughtful, individualized approach to patient care. We're growing our team and looking for a Veterinary Assistant / Client Service professional who enjoys connecting with clients, caring for patients, and being an essential part of a collaborative hospital.

If you're someone who likes variety, takes initiative, and naturally jumps in wherever you're needed, you'll fit right in.

Why Sun Dog Cat Moon?
  • Consistent four-day work week with approximately 33 hours per week
  • Typical schedule of 4 days per week, approximately 8–8.5 hours per day
  • Set schedule and consistent day off
  • No weekend requirements currently
  • Opportunity for schedule flexibility for the right candidate
  • Integrated medicine and whole-pet care
  • Hands-on exposure to veterinary patient care and complementary therapies
  • A supportive, team-first culture where everyone contributes
  • Opportunity to build your veterinary career in the Charleston Lowcountry

One Role. Two Sides of Veterinary Care.

This is a hybrid Veterinary Assistant / Client Service role designed for someone who enjoys both people and patient care

You'll help create a positive experience for clients at the front desk while also stepping into clinical responsibilities throughout the day. No two days are exactly alike—and that's part of what makes this opportunity unique.

Client Service & Front Desk

You'll help keep the client experience welcoming, organized, and efficient by:
  • Greeting clients and providing exceptional customer service
  • Answering phones and responding to client questions
  • Scheduling appointments and coordinating patient flow
  • Supporting check-in and check-out
  • Processing payments and reviewing client information
  • Filling and preparing prescriptions
  • Communicating treatment recommendations and care instructions
  • Building lasting relationships with clients and their pets

Veterinary Assistant & Patient Care

When you're supporting the clinical team, you'll help provide compassionate, hands-on care by:
  • Safely restraining patients for examinations, blood draws, and treatments
  • Assisting veterinarians and the veterinary team with procedures
  • Supporting patient preparation and recovery
  • Monitoring patients and communicating concerns to the clinical team
  • Performing cold laser therapy treatments following appropriate training
  • Supporting other patient-care responsibilities based on your experience and skill level
  • Maintaining clean, organized treatment and patient-care areas

Keep the Hospital Running Smoothly

Everyone at Sun Dog Cat Moon plays a role in maintaining a welcoming, efficient hospital. You'll also help with:
  • Stocking and maintaining medical and office supplies
  • Laundry and general hospital upkeep
  • Cleaning and maintaining treatment areas, patient spaces, and equipment
  • Preparing rooms and supplies for daily appointments
  • Jumping in to support teammates when the day gets busy

We're looking for someone who doesn't wait to be asked where help is needed.

What We're Looking For

We're seeking someone who is dependable, adaptable, personable, and comfortable wearing multiple hats.

Required:
  • 1+ year of veterinary experience preferred
  • Comfortable working with dogs and cats of varying sizes and temperaments
  • Strong communication and client service skills
  • Comfortable with basic veterinary patient handling and restraint
  • Ability to work confidently in both front-desk and clinical environments
  • Strong attention to detail and organization
  • Willingness to learn new skills and support different areas of the hospital
  • Reliable attendance and a positive, team-oriented attitude
  • Ability to jump in wherever needed to keep the hospital running smoothly
Preferred:
  • Veterinary Assistant or Veterinary Technician experience
  • Client Service Representative, Veterinary Receptionist, or customer service experience
  • Experience with venipuncture, blood draws, patient restraint, or veterinary treatments
  • Experience with cold laser therapy
  • Interest in integrative, holistic, or complementary veterinary medicine
  • Fear Free or low-stress handling experience
Your Schedule

We're targeting approximately 33 hours per week, with a preference for a four-day schedule of approximately 8–8.5 hours per day

Four-day schedule | Consistent day off | No weekend requirements currently

We're also willing to discuss alternative scheduling for the right candidate when experience, availability, and the needs of the practice align.

What We Offer

Compensation

$16–$18 per hour, based on veterinary experience, technical skills, and overall experience.
