Front Range Veterinary Clinic is seeking a dependable, compassionate, and motivated Part-Time Veterinary Assistant to join our veterinary support team. This position works closely with our veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and fellow support staff to provide high-quality patient care while delivering professional and efficient service to our clients.
The ideal candidate is comfortable working in a fast-paced veterinary environment, communicates effectively with both clients and team members, and takes pride in providing excellent care to every patient.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide support to veterinarians and veterinary technicians as directed throughout various areas of the hospital.
- Assist with safe and compassionate patient handling and restraint during examinations, treatments, diagnostic procedures, and sample collection.
- Obtain and document patient vital signs and other assistant-level assessments as directed.
- Administer medications and treatments within the scope of the Veterinary Assistant role and under the direction of a veterinarian or veterinary technician.
- Monitor hospitalized and recovering patients and promptly communicate changes, trends, or concerns to the appropriate medical team member.
- Provide appropriate patient husbandry, including cleanliness, nutrition, bedding, exercise, comfort, and general supportive care.
- Assist with patient admissions and discharges as directed by the veterinarian or veterinary technician.
- Safely transport patients throughout the hospital and assist clients with bringing pets into or out of the clinic when needed.
- Perform basic in-house laboratory procedures as appropriately trained, including SNAP tests, PCV/TS, urine specific gravity, and operation of in-house analyzers.
- Prepare samples and required documentation for outside laboratory testing.
- Maintain clean, organized, and appropriately stocked laboratory, treatment, and patient-care areas.
- Communicate effectively with veterinarians, technicians, assistants, and other team members regarding patient status and client concerns.
- Maintain complete and accurate patient medical records in accordance with hospital policies.
- Follow hospital safety procedures, OSHA requirements, infection-control protocols, and established hospital policies.
- Assist with end-of-life and aftercare procedures respectfully and compassionately according to client wishes and hospital protocols.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support patient care and hospital operations.
Qualifications
- Previous veterinary or animal-care experience is preferred, but we are willing to consider candidates with a strong interest in veterinary medicine and a willingness to learn.
- Comfortable safely handling dogs and cats of varying sizes.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Strong communication, organization, and time-management skills.
- Ability to maintain professionalism and compassion during stressful or emotionally sensitive situations.
- Willingness to learn and receive direction from veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and hospital leadership.
- Ability to perform the physical requirements associated with veterinary patient care, including standing for extended periods, bending, lifting, and assisting with patient restraint and transport.
Schedule & Compensation
This is a part-time position averaging approximately 20–25 hours per week. We are primarily looking for additional coverage on Mondays, Fridays, and Saturdays.
The compensation range for this position is $16–$19 per hour, based on experience.
