What You’ll Do as a Veterinary Assistant

  • Safely and compassionately handle and restrain dogs and cats for examinations and procedures
  • Assist veterinarians and technicians during examinations, treatments, surgeries, and other procedures
  • Monitor, adjust, and document anesthesia depth and patient vital signs
  • Place IV catheters and collect blood, urine, stool, and other diagnostic samples
  • Perform laboratory testing and assist with diagnostic imaging
  • Administer medications, treatments, and vaccines as directed
  • Prepare examination rooms, surgical areas, instruments, and supplies
  • Assist with local and regional anesthesia as directed and permitted
  • Feed, exercise, monitor, and provide attentive care for hospitalized patients
  • Maintain accurate medical records and patient documentation
  • Communicate clearly and compassionately with clients regarding patient care and status
  • Maintain supplies and equipment to keep the hospital running efficiently
  • Sterilize and wrap instruments and maintain clean, sanitary treatment and surgical areas
  • Verify medication expiration dates and follow hospital safety and regulatory protocols

What You’ll Bring as a Veterinary Assistant

  • Previous veterinary assistant experience
  • Confidence with patient handling and restraint
  • Experience with anesthesia monitoring and patient vital signs
  • Experience with IV catheter placement, sample collection, and laboratory procedures
  • Knowledge of medication administration and veterinary treatment protocols
  • Strong communication and client-service skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accurate medical records
  • Ability to multitask and stay organized in a fast-paced hospital environment
  • Dependable, compassionate, and team-oriented attitude
