Job Description


The Veterinary Assistant supports veterinarians and technicians in delivering quality patient care and ensures the clinic operates efficiently. This role focuses on animal handling, basic care, and assisting with daily clinical tasks.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Assist veterinarians and technicians with exams and treatments

  • Safely restrain animals for procedures and handling

  • Prepare exam rooms, treatment areas, and surgical suites

  • Clean and sterilize instruments and maintain clinic cleanliness

  • Feed, walk, and provide basic care for hospitalized patients

  • Assist with sample collection (as directed)

  • Fill prescriptions and prepare medications under supervision

  • Maintain accurate patient records and communicate updates to the team

  • Support client interactions, including basic education and discharge instructions

  • Stock supplies and ensure rooms are properly equipped

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required

  • Previous veterinary or animal care experience preferred

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

  • Compassionate, reliable, and detail-oriented

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and restrain animals of various sizes

  • Stand, walk, bend, and kneel for extended period

  • Comfortable working around animals, including those that may be stressed or fractious

  • Compensation: $18.00 – $22.00 per hour
    (Equivalent to approximately $37,000 – $46,000 annually for full-time employment)
