Campus Animal Resources (CAR) at Michigan State University (MSU) seeks a full-time Clinical Veterinarian to support its research mission through high-quality laboratory animal care and veterinary consultation. This position is primarily based at the Henry Ford Health + Michigan State University Health Science (HFH+MSU HS) Detroit building, with additional responsibilities at other Henry Ford Health sites. This position reports to the MSU Attending Veterinarian and assists MSU and HFH+MSU HS leadership with administration and management of the animal care and use program. The incumbent will also contribute to training, mentorship and program oversight within a complex multi-site research environment. This position is responsible for daily delivery of comprehensive preventive, diagnostic, therapeutic, and supportive veterinary care for laboratory animals used in research, teaching, and training programs. The role includes management of clinical cases identified in the research colonies; assist with disease surveillance and prevention programs; participate in various activities to ensure compliance with local and federal regulations and guidelines. This position provides professional veterinary expertise and regulatory support to the Attending Veterinarian, including development and interpretation of veterinary care and regulatory guidelines, and support for institutional compliance with federal, state, and accrediting body requirements. The Clinical Veterinarian collaborates closely with MSU and HFH+MSU HS support staff to ensure consistent delivery of veterinary services, effective communication, and timely resolution of animal health issues.
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired through completion of a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine or equivalent degree from an AVMA accredited School of Veterinary Medicine; postdoctoral training in laboratory animal medicine or one to three years of related experience that includes handling skills and diagnostic abilities specific to research animals; knowledge of Federal laws and regulations governing animal research; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; Veterinary license in at least one state with eligibility to include Michigan; and eligibility for Federal accreditation.
