[What the role is]

The Animal & Veterinary Service (AVS), a cluster of NParks, safeguards the health and welfare of animals through comprehensive and integrated programmes and works closely with partners in the veterinary and animal-related industries to strengthen capacities and enhance competencies in animal health and welfare. It is the main touch-point on animal and veterinary matters in Singapore and the first responder for all animal-related feedback. It also conducts public education and engagement programmes to foster a humane and gracious society for all, where pet owners, communities, and animals co-exist in greater harmony within our City in Nature.

[What you will be working on]

You will join the Veterinary Parasitology and Pathology (VPP) branch within the Centre for Animal and Veterinary Sciences (CAVS) Division. As a member of the trans-disciplinary team at CAVS, you will be responsible for providing professional and competent laboratory diagnostic and research support for veterinary investigations and surveillance programmes for the detection of animal and zoonotic diseases, as well as veterinary diagnostic and laboratory services to the public, with the objective of meeting NParks’ mission to create the best living environment through excellence in nature conservation, greenery and recreation, and veterinary care, in partnership with the community.

The main duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Oversight and ongoing capability building of veterinarians performing all activities under the pathology services section including post-mortem examinations, histopathology, cytology, and parasitology for aquatic, avian, and mammalian animal species, in support of animal disease and welfare investigations, biosurveillance programmes, research, and trade facilitation.

  • Co-oversight of the Branch’s laboratory quality assurance system in compliance with ISO/IEC 17025:2017 including reviewing and implementing administrative protocols and operational procedures related to laboratory diagnostic tests, laboratory management, workplace safety and health, and data and inventory management

  • Involve and contribute to policy development in areas of animal health and welfare. Participates in disease outbreak investigations as part of the NParks Veterinary team

  • Involve and contribute to NParks’ Centre for Wildlife Forensics and the WOAH Collaborating Centre for Wildlife Trade and Wildlife Health in terms of veterinary sciences, forensic sciences, and conservation including capability and capacity building of Asia-Pacific stakeholders.

[What we are looking for]

  • Areas of study in Veterinary Science with strong interest in the field of anatomic pathology with at least 5 years of relevant working experience

  • Postgraduate degree in relevant veterinary or animal health areas.

  • Highly motivated individual with initiative, drive, and passion for veterinary science and related areas and its application to policy development, safeguarding of animal health and welfare, biodiversity and conservation

  • Possesses good leadership, interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written)

  • Able to balance working independently and in a team environment

  • Competent in Microsoft Office Applications

  • Experience with ISO 17025:2017 and workplace safety and health.
