Job Description

  • Based at our Geelong, Waurn Ponds Campus
  • Part-time (0.6 FTE) and continuing
  • HEW 8 $123,554 - $141,459 + 17% Superannuation (pro rata, part time)

Why this role matters:

Provides high-quality veterinary care, develops biosecurity policies, oversees veterinary programs and supports operating procedures to ensure animals used in research and teaching are managed according to best practice for welfare and research excellence.

What you’ll do in this role:

  • Develop and sustain a university-wide veterinary care program for all animal facilities.
  • Provide expert veterinary care and advice for research and teaching animals.
  • Establish policies and systems to ensure ethical, best-practice animal care and management.
  • Promote and support best-practice animal management through stakeholder engagement, training, and guidance.
  • Build networks and foster capability and a culture of care among researchers and higher degree by research (HDR) students.

To be successful, you’ll have:

  • Postgraduate qualifications in Veterinary Sciences registrable in the State of Victoria or progress towards postgraduate qualifications and extensive relevant experience; or
  • Demonstrated experience working with and applying laboratory animal medicine, for animals commonly used in teaching and research
  • Knowledge of Australian code of practice for the care and use of animals for scientific purposes, and other regulatory requirements
  • Experience leading programs or functions
  • Strong analytical and strategic capability
  • Ability to influence stakeholders
  • Experience driving improvement
  • Ability to operate in complex environments
  • Demonstrated leadership capability
