Attention:
Veteran Services within the Division of Enrollment and Retention at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater seeks a Veterans Services Coordinator ( AE067).
Major Function:
The Veteran Services Coordinator at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater serves as the institution’s designated School Certifying Official (SCO) and primary liaison to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), State Approving Agency (SAA), and related federal and state agencies regarding veteran and military affiliated educational benefits. This position is responsible for the administration, certification, oversight, and regulatory compliance of federal and state veteran educational benefit programs while ensuring institutional compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and policies.
The Veteran Services Coordinator provides comprehensive support and guidance to veterans, military service members, spouses, and dependents regarding educational benefits and enrollment processes. This position works collaboratively with the Office of the Registrar, Financial Aid, Student Accounts, Academic Advising, and Veteran & Military Student Services to ensure accurate certification processing, timely reporting, and effective support for military affiliated students.
This position maintains institutional readiness for compliance reviews and audits, develops and maintains certification procedures and operational controls, and supports programming and initiatives that contribute to veteran student success and retention.
This position reports to the Director of Veteran, Military and Adult Student Services.
Responsibilities:
Certification & Benefit Administration
Serve as the institution’s designated School Certifying Official (SCO) for federal and state veteran educational benefit programs. Certify student enrollments, tuition, fees, and academic program information through VA, Department of Defense, and State of Wisconsin systems. Provide guidance to veterans, military affiliated students, spouses, and dependents regarding educational benefits eligibility, certification procedures, and required documentation. Assist students in understanding the appropriate use of federal, tuition assistance, and state educational benefits. Provide timely, professional, and student-centered service to military affiliated students. Collaborate with campus and community resources when serving students. Monitor and report enrollment changes including adds, drops, withdrawals, program changes, and academic standing changes in accordance with state and federal regulations. Maintain accurate, audit ready records in accordance with VA and state regulatory requirements. Manage timely reporting for Federal and State Military Tuition Assistance programs. Serve as the primary liaison between the university and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, State Approving Agency, and other applicable agencies. Develop, document, and maintain operational procedures, certification timelines, and internal controls related to veteran educational benefits processing. Ensure institutional readiness and consistency in veteran educational benefit certification operations and to ensure continued compliance.
Student Support & Veteran Programming
Support the development of a welcoming and supportive environment for veteran and military affiliated students. Manage the VA Work-Study Program, including student eligibility verification, hiring documentation, timesheet review, work assignments, and communication with the Department of Veterans Affairs. Collaborate with various campus offices to connect and serve students and dependents as recruitment and orientation events. Support both Whitewater and Rock County campuses with physical representation and connection to students. Provide support with student programming, campus and community events related to veteran and military affiliated students.

Compensation:
Well-qualified candidates can expect a starting annual salary within the range of $ 48,000 - $55,000 commensurate with the candidate's education, related experience, and qualifications.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree
Minimum of three years experience in higher education administration, veteran education benefits, registrar operations, financial aid, compliance, or related administrative functions.
Demonstrated experience interpreting and applying federal and/or state regulations, policies, or procedures.
Strong analytical, organizational, and documentation skills.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities with accuracy and attention to detail.
Experience handling confidential information with professional discretion.
Strong written and interpersonal communication skills.
Experience working with student information systems, Microsoft Office applications, and web-based systems.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with business process analysis.
Experience working with veteran education benefits.
Experience in higher education.
Experience with PeopleSoft software.
Strong knowledge of general office policies and procedures.
Experience interpreting, explaining, and applying complex regulations such as FERPA and veteran benefit regulations.
