Description

Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Northeast is located in Greenup Co., KY. It is a state owned cemetery maintaining national cemetery standards to provide dignity and respect to veterans and their families.

The Veterans Cemetery Superintendent participates in all burial operations for veterans and eligible family members, as well as special events such as ceremonies for Memorial Day, Veterans Day, Wreaths Across America, etc. Additionally, this position is responsible for maintaining the grounds and gravesites within the veterans’ cemetery.

KDVA is looking for a career-minded, self- motivated and energetic Veterans Cemetery Superintendent to work in our Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Northeast, who possesses the skills, knowledge and desire to perform the following:

  • Assist Cemetery Director with all interment operations
  • Operate heavy machinery
  • Supervise Cemetery Caretakers
  • Prepare reports and track costs
  • General maintenance of cemetery equipment, grounds and buildings

The ideal candidate will work independently, yet be part of a larger team to meet our commitment to serve Kentucky’s Veterans.

Minimum Requirements

EDUCATION: High school graduate.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Must have three years of experience in cemetery care taking, grounds maintenance, golf course greens keeping, landscaping, farming, military service, or other related experience.

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: College courses or technical training in horticulture or a related area will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: NONE

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license to qualify for employment in this job classification. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification. Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s) or other credentials.

Working Conditions

Work is performed outdoors in all types of weather conditions. Operates power equipment and handles pesticides.

Probationary Period

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
