Role Title: Verification and Validation Officer
Background and Scope:
The LND8710 program is a complex Defence capability acquisition focused on delivering an integrated land system that meets operational requirements for the Australian Defence Force. The program encompasses system design, integration, testing, and transition into service, with a strong emphasis on assurance, interoperability, and operational effectiveness.
This role supports the acquisition by ensuring that the delivered system is verified against its requirements and validated against its intended operational use, providing confidence to stakeholders that the capability is fit for purpose, safe, and ready for deployment.
Responsibilities:
The Validation & Verification (V&V) Officer will contribute to the planning, coordination, and execution of verification and validation activities across the system lifecycle. The role works closely with systems engineering, integration, and test teams, with involvement in Test & Evaluation (T&E) to demonstrate system performance in both controlled and operational environments.
- Develop and maintain Verification & Validation Plans (VVPs) aligned to program milestones
- Define and implement verification strategies, including test, analysis, inspection, and demonstration
- Contribute to Test & Evaluation (T&E) planning, including development of test concepts, scenarios, and procedures
- Support and participate in integration, system, and operational testing activities, including field trials where required
- Maintain requirements traceability to ensure all requirements are verified and validated
- Design and review test cases, scripts, and acceptance criteria
- Coordinate with engineering teams to ensure systems are testable, integrated, and compliant
- Analyse test results, identify defects or non-conformances, and support resolution activities
- Produce test reports, verification evidence, and compliance documentation for program assurance
- Provide input into technical and design reviews (e.g., SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR)
- Identify and manage risks, issues, and dependencies associated with V&V activities
- Support stakeholder engagement, including Defence representatives, during test and acceptance events
Essential Requirements:
• Bachelors Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Systems,Software or related discipline).
• Demonstrated experience in Verification & Validation, Systems Engineering, or Test & Evaluation roles preferably within a Defence maritime environment
• Experience contributing to integration and testing of complex systems
• Strong understanding of systems engineering lifecycle and V&V principles
• Experience with requirements management and traceability
• Ability to analyse technical data and produce clear, structured reports
• Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams
• Proven ability to identify and manage technical risks and issues
Desirable Requirements:
• Experience in Defence acquisition programs or working within a regulated assurance environment
• Familiarity with Test & Evaluation frameworks and formal test processes
• Knowledge of ISO/IEC/IEEE 15288 or similar systems engineering standards
• Experience supporting test campaigns, trials, or field-based testing activities
• Exposure to land systems, communications systems, or integrated platforms
• Professional certifications (e.g., INCOSE ASEP/CSEP)
