Grosvenor Mine has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Ventilation Officer to join our Technical Services team on a permanent basis.

As Grosvenor progresses towards a planned return to longwall production, this role provides a unique opportunity to contribute to one of Australia's most significant underground coal mine restarts. Working alongside experienced technical and operational teams, you will play a key role in establishing and maintaining effective ventilation and gas management systems that support a safe, compliant and productive operation.

Reporting to the Technical Services / Ventilation & Gas Superintendent, you will provide specialist technical leadership and advice on all ventilation and gas management matters while supporting the successful execution of the mine plan and future operational readiness.

You will provide strategic advice to the Technical Services, Operations and Compliance departments on ventilation issues. A high level of strategic thinking, planning and problem-solving skills will be instrumental in your success in this role.

Reporting to the Technical Services / Ventilation & Gas Superintendent, this key role will see you:

  • Champion a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with site standards, the Coal Mining Safety and Health Act and Regulations, and the Safety and Health Management System.
  • Assist in the management, planning, implementation and optimisation of the underground mine ventilation and gas drainage systems to ensure safe, compliant and efficient operations.
  • Develop, review and communicate ventilation and gas management strategies that support short, medium and long-term mine planning objectives.
  • Conduct regular underground inspections, audits and assessments of ventilation infrastructure, controls and monitoring systems to verify effectiveness and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Monitor ventilation and gas system performance, including gas monitoring programs, analyse trends and provide recommendations to improve safety, compliance and operational performance.
  • Provide expert ventilation and gas management advice to Technical Services, Operations and site leadership teams to support operational decision making and mine optimisation.
  • Support the maintenance and continual improvement of ventilation management plans, gas management plans, monitoring systems, standards and procedures.
  • Investigate ventilation and gas related incidents, hazards and non-conformances and support the implementation of effective corrective actions.
  • Mentor, coach and develop operational personnel in ventilation awareness, compliance requirements and best practice ventilation management.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve ventilation system performance, operational efficiency and safety outcomes through innovation and technology.

Qualifications

  • Formal qualifications as a Ventilation Officer being recognised by Queensland
  • Current Practising Certificate (if fulfilling statutory responsibilities).
  • Demonstrated experience in underground coal mining operations with strong technical expertise in mine ventilation and gas management.
  • Sound understanding of Queensland coal mining legislation and statutory compliance requirements.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and risk management skills.
  • Ability to build effective working relationships and influence stakeholders across technical and operational teams.
  • Experience in ventilation monitoring systems, gas drainage systems and ventilation planning.
  • S123, G2 and other relevant statutory competencies desirable.
  • A strong background in ensuring hazard identification and risk assessment principles, coupled with the compliance of all ventilation matters relating to legislation and the site safety management system.
