Teknion Custom Solutions, a leading custom wood furniture manufacturer in Calgary, is seeking a skilled Veneer Cutter to join our dedicated team. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Precisely cut, match, and lay out various wood species, utilizing a deep understanding of grain patterns and optimal cutting methods.
  • Interpret detailed shop drawings and design specifications to apply advanced matching techniques like book and slip matching.
  • Expertly set up, operate, and perform routine maintenance on veneer slicing machines and guillotine cutters.
  • Apply strong mathematical and spatial reasoning skills to maximize veneer yield and minimize waste.
  • Conduct thorough quality control checks to guarantee adherence to high standards and client expectations.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols, maintain hazard awareness, and keep an organized work area to ensure a safe environment.

PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Extensive understanding of species recognition, grain flow, colour variations, and how wood reacts to different finishes and light.
  • Mastery of cutting tools to achieve clean, accurate, and splinter-free results.
  • Technical proficiency in using hand tools and operating woodworking machinery.
  • Proven ability to create seamless grain flow and make aesthetic judgments for superior visual appeal.
  • Proactive in identifying and resolving challenges related to veneer quality, cutting, or adhesion.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented, fast-paced environment with a high degree of organization.

ASSETS

  • Experience with different veneer grades and backing materials.
  • Knowledge of specific cutting methods appropriate for desired design aesthetics.
