DPD Mission Statement, Intro to VDC EllisDon

At EllisDon you will lead digital transformation under Virtual Design & Construction, the most integral part of our Digital Project Delivery strategy. We enable our VDC Coordinators to leverage the latest VDC technology tools in the market to optimize construction project management. Supported by our collaborative and entrepreneurial culture, we allow for our VDC Coordinators to innovate and lead their projects to success. Most importantly, we empower our Coordinators to be the bridge between technology and traditional construction, which is most needed for effective digital transformation and innovation. The Construction industry is slowly embracing change and EllisDon intends to stay at the forefront of this movement by having innovative, engaging, organized, creative and problem solving champions such as yourselves.

You as a VDC Coordinator will:

  • Be a part of a project team working in a fast paced environment with project managers, superintendents, and engineers on-site.
  • Collaborate with VDC Leadership team to build and manage a BIM Execution Plan and VDC implementation strategy
  • Understand the owner BIM / Employers Information Requirements (EIR) and use a custom suite of software tools to prepare BIM model-based deliverables
  • Have the freedom and creativity to develop project specific workflows that utilize BIM data for estimating, logistics, planning, scheduling (4D), coordination, field layout, and facilitates management.
  • Develop solutions with the project stakeholders by performing model based design and constructability review, clash detection and visualization
  • Manage and maintain BIM data generated from various sources throughout design and construction
  • Take ownership over coordination meetings with designers, trades, and suppliers including chairing meetings and writing agendas & meeting minutes.
  • Generate drawings for sleeving and, logistics, ect. from the BIM using standardized details and workflows occasionally.
  • Manage and the development of Revit models to contain COBie data for asset management.
  • conduct VR walkthroughs of the future built asset with the client to address design concerns.
  • Work with closely with the design teams to develop the building design throughout various stages of design milestones and ensuring compliance to Project information requirements and BIM standards.
  • Work closely with the field team using the intelligent building models to track the progress on site and contribute on the overall project schedules and plans
  • Proactively identifying potential coordination issues and act as a subject matter expert for design software products & BIM related issues while maintaining best practices
  • Facilitate reality capture, utilizing LiDAR, Drones, and 360 Photography for model integration, QA/QC, analysis, and visualization
  • Help your project team navigate the expanding world of construction technology by teaching and mentoring them as they learn new software and workflows
  • Participate in software testing, R&D initiatives and continue personal and professional growth
  • Be a part of the VDC community to build on EllisDon’s rich history of innovation as leaders in the construction industry

  • Build a BIM Execution Plan and Project specific VDC implementation strategy

  • Work with Project Management team to develop BIM specific scope of work in tender documents
  • Use your 3D Modeling skills to model Architectural, Structural, MEP and Construction Logistic elements as needed for representation, visualization, and coordination

Is this the right role for you?

  • University degree/Technology Diploma in Engineering, Architecture, M&E or related field.
  • 3-5 years of professional experience with focus on BIM Management, MEP model Coordination preferably on site. Design build experience on healthcare projects would be an asset.
  • Experience in 3D laser scanning, 360 photography, and Lidar would be an asset
  • Experience working with COBie data would be an asset.
  • Experience with ISO 19650 standards would be an asset.
  • Advanced experience in Revit including interoperability tools, AutoCAD and Navisworks is required.
  • Experience in Autodesk Construction Cloud, cmBuilder, and Fuzor are considered an asset
  • 3D Modelling experience considered as an asset
  • Experience working with Microsoft 365, Adobe Acrobat and/or Bluebeam.
  • High level of knowledge interpreting design and construction drawings
  • Passionate about the construction industry and innovation
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, and ability to work in a collaborative environment.
  • Excellent organization, time management skills, and attention to detail
  • BIM-related training or certifications considered an asset (Building Transformations, BuildingSMART)
  • RPAS (Drone) operator Certification (Or the ability to achieve) to operate drones on our project sites. Experience with drone deploy would be an asset.
  • Self motivated, passionate, innovative, and creative
  • Ability to interact with external entities (clients, owners, agencies) to interpret and understand desired BIM or CAD delivery requirements.

  • Experience developing technical information and presentation material

  • Ability to travel or commute to project site
