Contour tutors are the heart of that student experience. As an Assistant Tutor, you'll support the lead tutor in engaging group classes of 8-20 students, help students build confidence, master their subjects, and excel in their assessments, all while sharing your passion for learning.

Who we are

Contour was founded in 2020 by students who saw that the quality of your education was basically a lottery. Teachers stretched thin by the system, learning materials that varied from school to school, and support that stopped the moment you left the classroom.

We began with 5 students in a room. Today 15,000+ students have trusted Contour as their academic partners, and we've grown to 500+ team members across 10 campuses in Australia. In 2025 we ranked #8 on the AFR Fast 100 of fastest-growing companies.

We've produced hundreds of 99+ ATARs, tutored the world-record UCAT scorer, and placed 850+ students into medical and dental schools across Australia.

Contour is made up of three brands:

• Contour Education → academic performance in high school
• Contour MedPrep → entry into medical and dental schools
• Contour TestPrep → entry into selective and scholarship schools

What you'll do

You'll work with students one at a time, supporting the lead tutor and the wider class:

• Support – work alongside the lead tutor in class, helping address student questions
• Consult – run 1-on-1 video consults with students who need extra help
• Assist – answer student questions by text between classes
• Review – write worked solutions and verify learning materials for quality
• Mentor – share your own experiences and form genuine connections
• Connect – build relationships that inspire students to keep going

Note: all additional support you provide outside scheduled class hours is completely free for students, but you're fully compensated for your time.

What you'll bring

• Strong communication and a knack for making hard concepts click
• Knowledge of Maths at first-year university level or above
• A 99+ ATAR and a 45+ raw study score in your subject (highly desirable, not required)
• Ability to commit to weekly classes (consistent attendance required).
• Energy, empathy, and a desire to help students
• Alignment with Contour's mission (non-compete agreement required)

• The pay: Assistant Tutors start at $55/class and rise to $70/class, plus super.

• Real (paid) training: qualification through Contour Tutor Academy, class sit-ins, regular check-ins with your team lead, and honest feedback on your tutoring.

How to apply

1. Submit your CV, ATAR/study scores, and a short paragraph on why you'd make a great assistant tutor at Contour
2. Submit a short video (10–15 minutes) of you tutoring with a sample workbook we provide
3. Attend an in-person interview, which includes a Q&A and teaching a mock small-group class

One thing to know: all tutoring roles at Contour include a non-compete agreement. We heavily invest in your development as a tutor and ask for the same commitment to our mission in return. We'll walk you through the details before you sign any offer.
