Under the direction of the Non-Invasive Vascular Lab Supervisor and Medical Director, this role performs specialized ultrasound studies of the venous and arterial systems. These studies include, but are not limited to, carotid, aortic, mesenteric, renal, and celiac imaging, as well as cardiac mapping and pulse volume recordings. The position also supports the interpretation of study results, contributing to accurate and timely patient diagnoses.
This individual serves as a senior technical resource within the laboratory, providing guidance and expertise to team members. Responsibilities include assisting with the interview process for prospective technologists and playing an active role in the orientation and training of new staff, as well as the ongoing development of current technologists and visiting students.
In addition, the role requires regular interaction with multiple databases and the patient’s electronic medical record (EMR) to support testing, documentation, and continuity of care.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Perform ultrasound studies specific to veins and arteries, including but not limited to carotid, aorta, mesenteric, renal, and celiac cardiacmappingand pulse volume recordings, typically handling complicated and difficult cases.
Review patient history,obtain brief current patient history anddeterminetheappropriate procedure(s)necessary for proper diagnosis, consulting with physician if there are any questions concerning the ultrasound exam.
Notify physicians of abnormal findings.
Prepare patients for examination, explaintheprocedureandassistpatientson/off examination table and with dressing/undressing, asrequired
Perform technical procedures in the application of duplex imaging and other non-invasive procedures on peripheral arteries whichutilizepulse volume recorders with Doppler that may require treadmill testing.
Maintainappropriate testingdocumentation in patient medicalrecordand a file copy of all examinations performed.
Accurately complete financial documentation for billing procedure.
Perform ultrasound and pulse volume recording studies at the hospital bedside, in the inpatient setting and in the outpatient clinics to report findings to the care provider.
Assistwith interpretation of study results.
Correlate non-invasive vascular laboratory study results with other diagnostic studies performed (e.g., arteriograms, venograms, CT scans, and MRI).
Evaluate images andmakepreliminary decisions on patient findings.
Serveas a senior technical resource for the non-invasive vascular laboratory.
Assistin the correlation of vascular laboratory studies and in clinical research as outlined by the medical director of the non-invasive vascular laboratory.
Participate in the evaluation of new equipment and procedures.
Assistwith the interviewing of applicants and orientation and training of new members of the non-invasive vascular laboratory.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Completion ofan appropriate alliedhealth program leading to a degree or certificate in the application of non-invasive cardiovascular ultrasound techniques
Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) or otherappropriate nationalcertification
Current RVT or registry eligible. Appropriate national registry must be completed within one year of hire
Completion ofan appropriate alliedhealth program leading to a degree or certificate in the application of non-invasive cardiovascular ultrasound techniques
Advanced training in anatomy, physiology, biology, and physics.
Demonstratedproficiencywith non-invasive vascular laboratory equipment and procedures
Knowledge of the use and application of diagnostic imaging instrumentation including pulse volume recordings, treadmill testing, duplex imaging systems,Dopplerand portable continuous-wave Doppler
Knowledge of databases, image storage, and electronic medicalrecord
In-depth knowledge of anatomy and physiology as related to the circulatory system (usuallyattainedin a training program)
