Vascular Interventional Radiologic Technologist

Seeking a Vascular and Endovascular Surgery Technologist at Walter Reed National Medical Center to support mission-essential surgical services within the Operating Room and Interventional Radiology environments. The position functions under the supervision of the Chief, Vascular and Cardiothoracic Surgery Service and provides technical expertise in support of vascular, endovascular, cardiothoracic, and neurosurgical procedures. Duties are performed in accordance with accepted medical standards, Joint Commission requirements, and applicable Army and Department of Defense policies.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the Operating Room Vascular and Endovascular Surgery Technologist supporting Vascular, Cardiothoracic, and Neurosurgery services.
- Independently operate, manage, program, and maintain robotic fluoroscopic and digital imaging equipment used during perioperative procedures.
- Assist physicians with complex invasive vascular and endovascular procedures, including arteriography, angioplasty, atherectomy, stenting, venograms, and cavagrams.
- Prepare sterile surgical fields, instruments, guide wires, catheters, contrast media, and vascular medications in accordance with aseptic technique.
- Assist with advanced imaging activities, including CT/MR image manipulation, three-dimensional reconstructions, vessel measurements, and intraoperative image guidance.
- Monitor patients for signs of distress and ensure patient safety and comfort throughout procedures.
- Participate in quality assurance and quality control activities related to vascular and endovascular surgical services, including review of imaging data and documentation.
- Provide training and technical guidance to medical staff on the operation and safe use of vascular and endovascular surgical imaging equipment.
- Coordinate with vendors, engineers, and clinical representatives regarding equipment, supplies, and technological advancements.
Minimum Qualifications
- Graduation from an Interventional Radiology Technologist education program accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT).
- Possession of a Certificate of Vascular-Interventional Radiology (VI).
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience as an Interventional Radiology Technologist.
- Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) / Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Demonstrated knowledge of vascular anatomy, imaging principles, radiation safety, robotic fluoroscopy, and quality control procedures.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in an operating room or hybrid interventional surgical environment.
- Prior experience supporting vascular or endovascular surgical services in a military or government medical facility.
- Experience providing training to medical staff on advanced imaging or fluoroscopic equipment.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to bend, lift, reach, and carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work safely in an operating room and radiologic environment with adherence to radiation safety precautions.
