Shady Side Academy is seeking applications for a Boys Varsity Golf Coach This position reports to the Director of Athletics and directly supervises the assistant coaches and student athletes. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the capacity to coach Golf in support of Shady Side Academy's mission, which is to challenge students to think expansively, act ethically and lead responsibly Additionally, the successful candidate will model Shady Side’s Guiding Principles: Honesty, Kindness, Responsibility, Respect and Safety These principles not only guide Shady Side’s daily activities and interactions, but they also point to the larger, more encompassing ideals and behaviors of integrity, thoughtfulness, and compassion integral to all endeavors at Shady Side.

Qualified candidates will be responsible for the overall development and maintenance of the Shady Side Academy Boy’s Golf Program, who is a member of the WPIAL & PIAA. The successful candidate would be expected to be responsible for teaching, planning, organizing, and coordinating the academy’s boys golf program. This includes structural and administrative organization of the program as outlined in the responsibilities listed below.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree required

A minimum of one year coaching experience at the high school level is preferred, though excellent candidates with collegiate and professional coaching experience will also be given serious consideration.

  • Bachelor’s Degree: especially in education, physical education, sports management, or a related field.
  • Coaching experience: Prior experience coaching golf (High school, college, or professional level)
  • A strong understanding of golf rules, tactics, and strategies is essential.
  • Proactive and effective communicator. Coaches must be able to communicate effectively with student-athletes, other coaches, parents, and school administrators.
  • Relational leadership style.
  • Teaching experience, and genuine appreciation of high school students. The head Coach is expected to serve as a mentor and role model, teaching life skills such as teamwork, discipline, and perseverance.
  • Empathy, emotional intelligence
  • Open door policy/ability to listen.
  • Cultural competency.
  • Strategic thinking and sound decision-making
  • Collaborative within and across divisions.
