Job Title: Varsity Boys & Girls Track & Field Assistant Coach
Position Overview:
Cooperstown Central School is seeking a dedicated and energetic Varsity Boys & Girls Track & Field Assistant Coach to support the head coach in delivering a comprehensive and competitive program. This coach will assist in the development of student-athletes across various track and field events while fostering a positive, team-centered environment. The assistant coach will play an important role in training, mentoring, and supervising athletes during the spring season.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with daily practices, drills, and event-specific training across sprints, distance, throws, jumps, and relays
- Support individual athlete development with technical instruction and feedback
- Help organize and manage team logistics during practices and meets
- Supervise student-athletes at all practices, meets, and related team events
- Promote good sportsmanship, academic responsibility, and personal growth
- Collaborate with the head coach and other assistants to ensure smooth program operations
- Maintain compliance with NYSPHSAA, Section III, and district policies
Qualifications:
- Required:
- Completion or willingness to complete all NYSED coaching certification requirements, including:
- CPR and First Aid Certification
- DASA Training
- Concussion Management Certification
- SAVE Training
- Fingerprint clearance through NYSED
- Preferred:
- Experience competing in or coaching track and field events
- Knowledge of training principles and event-specific techniques
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to work with athletes of varying abilities and event interests
- Enthusiasm for promoting a supportive and inclusive team culture
