Job Description

To provide efficient, timely, and correct transportation of the patients in accordance with local, State, National and Acadian Ambulance standards of practice. To also provide efficient and timely transportation of non-emergency non-ambulance patients and/or clients as well as miscellaneous records, supplies and equipment, etc.

  1. Conducts regular shuttle van inventory and equipment testing to insure all equipment for which the shuttle van operator is responsible is present, clean and in proper working order.
  2. Responsible for full knowledge of the shuttle van's Basic Life Support equipment and its proper use at all times.
  3. Documents and reports all needed repairs to the proper maintenance departments (electronics or mechanical) as well as to supervisors.
  4. Documents daily logs of all transportation. Obtains patient and non-patient documentation. Completes other patient and non-patient documentation and forms as required by the company.
  5. Assist other medical personnel with patients as necessary.
  6. Provides careful handling of the patient to and from the shuttle van.
  7. Provides prompt and efficient basic life support care of the patient when needed. Immediately calls for ambulance assistance as needed.
  8. Provides safe and efficient transport of the patient in the shuttle van to the required destination.
  9. Provides a safe and efficient transfer of patient and patient care information to the receiving personnel at the destination.
  10. Upon completion of transport, responsible for the assigned duties which will place the shuttle van and equipment back in service.
  11. In the non-emergency setting, operates/drives the shuttle in a safe and efficient manner, following Allsafe Driving guidelines, so that the safety or condition of the occupants is not compromised.
  12. Follows all FCC regulations when communicating via electronic communications equipment.
  13. Attends all mandatory company meetings as scheduled.
  14. Completes assigned miscellaneous duties as required by the position.
  15. Orders supplies and equipment from Purchasing to replenish shuttle van inventories as needed.
  16. Completes assigned shuttle van duties (i.e. washing, waxing, interior and exterior cleaning, etc.) as required by the position.
  17. Completes all required company reports and logs and when necessary provides other shuttle van and supervisor personnel with this information.
  18. If approved, is responsible for orienting new employees as directed.
  19. Performs other duties as required by supervisor or Vice President Operations

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High School Diploma or GED.
  2. Current CPR certification as established by the American Heart Association.
  3. Current and valid state-issued driver 's license determined by appropriate state requirements (equivalent of a Louisiana Class "D" driver's license).
  4. Must be able to read, write and communicate professionally and effectively with employees and managers. Must possess the ability to write simple correspondence or reports. Must possess the ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees and/or managers.
  5. Must be able to drive large vehicles in normal and adverse conditions.
  6. Skilled in the use of maps. Excellent knowledge of the rules of driving for non-emergency situations.
  7. Knowledge of common physical illnesses, minor and acute emergencies and the symptoms of each. The ability to perform and act professionally as outlined in the standards of Acadian Ambulance Service. The ability to communicate effectively both in writing and verbally with good knowledge of medical terminology. Skilled in the use of electronic communication devices, computers, radios, etc. The ability to deal sympathetically with patients and others. The ability to act professionally with other employees, emergency service providers, healthcare workers and the general public. Excellent knowledge of Company policy and procedure and the ability to perform to those standards.
