Job Description
The Valve Technician is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, repair, testing, and installation of industrial valves used in refinery operations. This role ensures valves operate safely, reliably, and in compliance with refinery standards, safety regulations, and environmental requirements. The position supports continuous plant operations across multiple refinery locations.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspect, troubleshoot, repair, overhaul, and test industrial valves, including gate, globe, ball, check, control, relief, and safety valves
- Perform valve disassembly, cleaning, lapping, reassembly, and functional testing
- Conduct in-field and shop-based valve maintenance in accordance with refinery procedures
- Test and calibrate pressure relief valves and control valves to applicable codes and specifications
- Read and interpret P&IDs, isometric drawings, valve datasheets, and maintenance documentation
- Identify valve failures and wear patterns; recommend corrective actions
- Accurately document inspections, repairs, and test results
- Follow refinery safety policies, including lockout/tagout, confined space, and permit requirements
- Support shutdowns, turnarounds, and emergency maintenance activities
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Valve Technician or Mechanical Maintenance Technician in a refinery, petrochemical, or industrial environment
- Strong working knowledge of industrial valves and actuation systems (manual, pneumatic, hydraulic, electric)
- Active TWIC card (required)
- Enrollment with DISA Global Solutions (required)
- Must pass and remain compliant with DISA drug and alcohol testing requirements, including hair follicle testing
- Current Basic Plus safety training (required)
- Willingness and ability to travel to refinery locations in Houston, San Antonio, and Corpus Christi, Texas
- Ability to meet refinery physical and safety requirements
Working Conditions
- Work performed in active refinery units and maintenance shops
- Exposure to heat, noise, chemicals, and industrial environments
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks
- May require travel, shift work, overtime, callouts, and turnaround assignments
