Job Description

Value Stream Product Specialist

Role Summary/Purpose

The Product Specialist is the configuration and order integrity owner for the value stream, responsible for translating customer requirements into accurate, manufacturable product definitions. This role ensures that all products released to the manufacturing line meet customer specifications, quality requirements, and delivery expectations, while serving as the primary link between customer care, engineering, supply chain, and production.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Own the translation of customer requirements into complete, accurate, and buildable product configurations to support right‑first‑time manufacturing.
  • Review and validate all work orders prior to release to ensure alignment with customer specifications, historical configurations, and internal requirements, preventing errors and rework.
  • Identify discrepancies, missing information, or non‑standard requirements and drive resolution with customer service, engineering, or other stakeholders before production begins.
  • Define, maintain, and control product configurations, ensuring all parameters, features, and test requirements are correctly established and executed on the manufacturing line.
  • Provide direct technical support to manufacturing operations, ensuring operators have clear and accurate guidance to execute builds in accordance with customer requirements.
  • Serve as the technical authority within the value stream for configuration, product definition, and customer-specific requirements during production.
  • Maintain and validate Bill of Materials (BOM) accuracy, ensuring correct parts, revisions, and structures are reflected in production orders.
  • Support engineering change management by implementing customer requirement changes and ensuring updates are reflected across configurations, BOMs, and released work orders.
  • Verify material readiness for upcoming production, identify risks to supply or shortages, and coordinate with procurement to ensure uninterrupted manufacturing flow.
  • Coordinate cross‑functionally with engineering, supply chain, quality, and customer service to ensure alignment between customer requirements and production execution.
  • Support the customer complaint process by participating in root cause analysis, driving corrective actions, and ensuring issues tied to product configuration or documentation are resolved and do not recur.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement by analyzing production issues, historical data, and customer feedback to strengthen configuration processes and reduce defects and variation.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • High School graduate with mechanical aptitude and 2-3 years experience in a manufacturing environment, product configuration, or engineering support roles
  • Experience in manufacturing operations, product configuration, or engineering support roles
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret technical specifications and translate them into production requirements
  • Experience working cross-functionally in a manufacturing or value stream environment
  • Knowledge of Bill of Materials (BOM) structures, engineering change processes, and production workflows

Desired Characteristics

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain, or a related technical discipline
  • Strong technical problem-solving and root cause analysis capabilities
  • High attention to detail with a focus on error prevention and process discipline
  • Effective communication skills across technical and operational teams
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a production environment with competing timelines
  • Continuous improvement mindset aligned with Lean, Six Sigma, or Toyota Production System principles
  • Ability to operate as a central coordination point across engineering, manufacturing, and customer-facing teams
