The Texas Instruments Radar team in Dallas is looking for a mmWave/RF Validation Manager to lead its Validation team that supports its radar portfolio of products across Automotive and Industrial markets. The Radar business unit is a performance innovator in integrated RFCMOS radar technology offering an industry leading 60GHz & 77GHz product portfolio. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

• Manage and direct various sized groups of people through the validation process
• Develop realistic schedules and report progress
• Resolve issues (technical and non-technical) real time
• Drive projects to on-time completion
• Hardware development
• Design and document test systems and circuit boards typically in the 55 - 85 GHz range
• Test development

Validation engineers are said to have a 'break-the-part' mentality. This means they spend some of their time working to identify the use-cases in which the device will stop working as intended and understand the impact and cause of those failures. Sometimes, those are acceptable failures, but others we may need to mitigate for quality, safety, or other reasons. Plus, we want to ensure that our parts are consistently performing to the specifications that we set in our data sheet, and even to some more conservative limits or as defined in the VVCM (validation/verification compliance matrix). To do this, they must design PCB boards and develop automation software that will increase coverage and reduce data collection time. Validation engineers will also design, develop, and implement necessary methods of measuring device performance and troubleshooting any related systems, equipment or device issues that arise. Validation engineers are often working in a post-silicon lab or on the software programs required to run their measurements.

Minimum requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, ECE, Computer Engineering or related field of study
• 8 years of related engineering experience with very strong experience in RF testing
• Demonstrated leadership capacity

Preferred qualifications

• Must have a good understanding of RF and analog systems, functional blocks, and performance metrics (intermodulation, compression, noise figure, etc.)
• Would preferably have a background in RF Testing and/or Systems and/or Design
• Must have an in-depth understanding of test equipment and be able to design test systems and test methodology to support radios in the 55-85 GHz range
• Must be able to design support circuitry on our validation platforms (power management, wireless receiver chains, power amplifiers, etc.)
• Good understanding of signal processing to enable post processing of digitized signals and to understand the on-chip processing of our devices is a plus
• Must have good diagnostic skills and be able to utilize test equipment, write simple scripts to control devices and equipment, and use tools such as MATLAB and ADS to analyze results
• Familiarity/experience with advanced high-frequency PCB materials is a plus
• Nice to have experience with mmWave circuit boards and test systems
• Ability to manage off-site contract workers to develop characterization boards for mmWave devices is a plus
• Should have a basic understanding of electromagnetics
• Nice to have electromagnetic simulation capability
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to work in teams and collaborate effectively with people in different functions
• Ability to take the initiative and drive for results
• Strong time management skills that enable on-time project delivery
• Working well in a team environment is imperative in this role
• Demonstrated ability to build strong, influential relationships
• Good listener and excellent verbal and written communication skills
