Job Description

At Balanced Body, we believe that movement changes lives. For nearly 50 years, we’ve been the global leader in Pilates equipment and education, blending mindful movement with world-class engineering. From our solar-powered headquarters in Sacramento, we manufacture premium equipment that empowers people to feel better and move more freely.

We are looking for a creative, highly skilled, and strategically minded UI/UX Product Designer to join our growing marketing team.

Please note: This is fundamentally a design role, not a software development role. Your primary responsibility is the end-to-end visual and interactive design of our digital products—from user research and wireframing to creating high-fidelity prototypes. While you will be responsible for final front-end implementation and visual customization within our content management systems (WordPress and Shopify), you will not be writing backend code.

You will report directly to the Marketing Manager and work closely alongside our dedicated web development team, acting as the primary bridge to ensure your visual designs are executed flawlessly in production.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design Execution: Design polished high-fidelity mockups and interactive prototypes in Figma that prioritize clean user flows, strong visual hierarchy, and refined visual aesthetics.
  • Ecommerce Experience Design: Design and optimize ecommerce experiences, including product detail pages (PDPs), collection pages, navigation systems, merchandising experiences, and conversion-focused landing pages. Ensure all designs meet strict accessibility and responsive design best practices (WCAG 2.1/2.2 AA).
  • Analytics & Iteration: Use analytics, heatmaps, session recordings, and user behavior insights to systematically identify friction points, form hypotheses, and guide iterative UX improvements across platforms.
  • UX Writing & Microcopy: Take ownership of the digital copy that guides the user journey, crafting intuitive microcopy for calls-to-action (CTAs), error messages, modals, onboarding steps, and tooltips.
  • Design Implementation: Manage the look, feel, and layout of our web properties. Customize responsive page layouts within WordPress and Shopify, modifying theme settings and customizing elements to align closely with approved Figma prototypes and established design systems.
  • Continuous UX Research: Conduct ongoing user research, usability analysis, and heuristic evaluations to support current web projects, map user journeys, and keep our digital platforms grounded in global UX best practices.
  • Cross-Functional Balancing: Act as a creative consultant to balance a variety of needs from marketing, development, and SEO optimization—making agile design adjustments as needed without sacrificing design integrity.
  • Visual Asset Creation: Produce high-quality digital marketing assets, including custom banners, icons, user interface components, and promotional graphics.

Requirements

  • Experience: Minimum 5 years of professional experience in a dedicated UI/UX or Product Design role. You are a confident design practitioner capable of owning creative timelines and working independently on major deliverables.
  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in a design-related field (e.g., Interaction Design, Visual Communication, Graphic Design, HCI) is preferred. An equivalent combination of a non-design degree and extensive, proven professional design experience will also be considered.
  • Portfolio: Portfolio should demonstrate comprehensive, end-to-end product thinking, including detailed UX workflows, interaction design, responsive structures, and visually refined final execution. An eye trained in type, color and hierarchy is a must.
  • Systems & Breakpoint Thinking: A deep understanding of component-based design systems, mobile-first thinking, and a proven ability to gracefully adapt high-fidelity designs for different breakpoints, mobile surfaces, and responsive screens.
  • Figma & Adobe Expertise: Expert-level proficiency in Figma (including auto-layout, variants, and design tokens) along with strong skills in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator) for advanced asset creation.
  • CMS Theme Management: Experience managing the presentation layer of sites within WordPress (Gutenberg/Elementor) and Shopify (theme configuration and app integrations) to maintain absolute visual fidelity.
  • Front-End Literacy: Foundational understanding of HTML5, CSS3/SCSS, responsive layout behavior, and front-end styling principles sufficient to collaborate effectively with backend developers and support seamless visual implementation.

Bonus Skills (The "Nice-to-Haves")

  • International User Experience: Experience designing localized layouts, multi-language navigation, and culturally tailored interfaces for international user bases as we expand globally.
  • SEO & Performance Awareness: Understanding of how visual choices, layout structures, and image weights impact organic search visibility, page load speeds, and Core Web Vitals.
  • AI-Assisted Efficiency: Experience integrating modern AI tools (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor, Figma Make) to speed up your design process, accelerate component drafting,
