The Utility Worker is primarily responsible for packing orders accurately and efficiently, ensuring that parts are cleaned, properly sized, and securely packed for shipping. This role works closely with the Material Movement Specialist (MMS) and other warehouse team members to ensure that shipments meet quality standards and are delivered on time.

Key Responsibilities:

Packing and Order Preparation:

  • Clean parts as required before packing.
  • Place parts in boxes, securing them with Styrofoam blocks or other packing materials.
  • Cut boxes to the correct size and wrap them with a bander to ensure secure shipment.
  • Label boxes with appropriate shipping information.
  • Stack products in a uniform pattern to maximize space and minimize damage during transit.
  • Gather supplies needed for each order to ensure packing is efficient and complete.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Work closely with the Material Movement Specialist (MMS) and other team members to meet shipping deadlines.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and MMS regarding order status and packing details.

Handling Specialized Orders:

  • Pack larger, heavier orders (e.g., uprights) with care to ensure safety and quality.
  • Count large quantity orders and ensure accuracy before packing.

Safety and Cleanliness:

  • Adhere to all safety protocols while handling materials and equipment.
  • Clean up spills and restock packing materials as needed.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Education:
    High school diploma or GED required.
    0–1 year of relevant experience in a warehouse or packing environment preferred.
  • Skills:
    • Strong teamwork and communication skills.
    • Ability to lift heavy items and stand for long periods.
    • Basic math skills for counting and measuring parts.
    • Familiarity with reading tape measures for accurate packing.
    • Ability to work efficiently and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
  • Certifications:
    No certifications are required for this position.

Working Conditions:

  • Environment:
    Warehouse environment with exposure to varying temperatures and physical demands.
    Expect to stand for extended periods and lift materials up to a certain weight (e.g., heavy uprights).
  • Teamwork:
    You will be part of a collaborative team, working with MMS, warehouse staff, and other team members to ensure orders are packed and shipped correctly.

Performance Metrics:

  • Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):
    • Zero defects in packing (ensuring quality and accuracy).
    • Maintaining a safety record of zero accidents.
    • Meeting an efficiency goal of 98% for packing speed and accuracy.
  • Goals:
    • Ensure timely, defect-free packing of orders.
    • Consistently meet efficiency standards for the department.

    • Variability in box sizes can make packing more time-consuming.
    • Some parts (e.g., uprights) can be heavy and difficult to handle.

Training and Development:
