The City of Norfolk's Department of Utilities is seeking qualified candidates for a Utility Maintenance Mechanic III in the Wastewater OPS Pump Station division. This person performs mechanical repairs on equipment, including installation, diagnosis, repairs, and preventive maintenance. Troubleshoots and makes repairs on mechanical equipment including high voltage equipment.

Examples of duties

Essential functions include but are not limited to:

  • Maintains equipment by conducting major repairs and preventative maintenance to all Pump Stations including repairing pumps, valves and piping.
  • Performs preventative maintenance on buildings and equipment.
  • Responsible for weekly, monthly and annual PMs at all City of Norfolk Pump Stations.
  • Provides training and guidance to Mechanic I and Maintenance Workers.
  • Completes maintenance logs and Lucity Work Orders.

Qualifications

Work requires knowledge necessary to understand basic operational, technical, or office processes. Level of knowledge equivalent to four years of high school or equivalency.

Five years' experience as an Industrial Maintenance Mechanic or Electrician.

The ideal candidate will have five years of experience as an Industrial Maintenance Mechanic.

Work Hours: Monday through Friday: 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

This position is designated as an 'Essential' position and you may be required to work extended, rotating, on call, nights, weekends, and/or holidays in response to emergencies or severe weather.
