Position(s):Utility Locator – Civil Construction
Shift Schedule: Monday – Friday
Location: Surrey, British Columbia

Forbes Bros Ltd. is currently looking for experienced seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Underground Utility Locator (full-time, permanent) to support our shallow utility construction operations throughout the Lower Mainland. The successful candidate will be responsible for accurately locating and marking underground utilities to ensure safe excavation activities, regulatory compliance, and uninterrupted project delivery. This role requires a strong technical foundation, field experience, and the ability to work independently in dynamic construction environments.

Key Responsibilities:

• Emulates Forbes Bros core value of 'WE WORK SAFE' in all daily tasks
• Perform accurate locating and marking of underground utilities including electrical, telecommunications, gas, water, and sewer infrastructure
• Interpret utility drawings, as-built records, survey data, and municipal mapping systems
• Use electromagnetic, radio frequency, and ground-penetrating radar (GPR) locating equipment
• Clearly mark utilities in accordance with BC One Call and industry standards
• Communicate findings to project managers, supervisors, equipment operators, and site crews
• Complete detailed locate reports and field documentation
• Identify potential conflicts and provide constructability input prior to excavation
• Maintain locating equipment and ensure calibration and proper use
• Adhere to all company safety policies, WorkSafeBC regulations, and client requirements
• Coordinate with utility owners, inspectors, and third-party stakeholders as required
• Assisting with continuous improvement projects and other operational tasks, as required

What We Are Looking For:

• Minimum two (2) + years' experience as a utility locator within civil or shallow utility construction, is required
• Valid Class 5 BC Driver's License, is required
• First Aid Level 1 certification, strongly preferred
• Certification or formal training in utility locating, an asset
• Able to read and interpret utility plans, profiles, and record drawings
• Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of electromagnetic and GPR locating technologies
• Familiarity with BC One Call processes and locate request systems
• Understanding of utility depth limitations, signal distortion, and interference factors and industry colour-coding and marking standards
• Competency in documenting locates using field forms, mobile applications, or GIS-based systems
• Solid understanding of excavation safety, ground disturbance protocols, and damage prevention practices
• Ability to assess site conditions and identify potential underground conflicts
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to direct a team to efficiently and effectively complete jobs within deadlines
• Able and willing to accommodate frequent overtime hours and weekend hours when required
• Able and willing to travel to various outdoor project locations as required in varying weather conditions
