Job Description

The Utility Laborers provides support to systems critical for the safe and quality production of Magnet Wire. This position supports these systems which include the drawing lubricant system, quench systems, evaporator systems, enamel systems and caustic equipment. The Utility Laborers provide hazardous waste support and general plant cleanup.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Inspects all enamel hose connections for leaks and replaces gaskets when needed, escalating reporting of any repair issues beyond scope. Confirms containers are secured with proper fittings
  • Inspects levels on hazardous waste collection and solid waste drums, always processing and storing in appropriate locations
  • Checks fluid levels in the mineral spirits, power strip and alcohol tank, adding material when the levels are low and cleans and replaces when needed
  • Maintains inventory on ethanol, mineral spirits and power strip
  • Cleans all funnels and associated equipment used to dispense enamel from totes to drums
  • Sweeps enamel rooms and cleaning rooms daily, empty trash once per week, stock sink area with soap and paper towels daily. Maintain housekeeping at the evaporator and compressor
  • Ensures daily tow-motor is inspected and placed on charge at the end of the shift
  • Separate pallets and move to appropriate areas, empty trash hoppers in various locations throughout the plant, baling plastic and cardboard as needed and placing on pallets. Band scrap pallets 15 to17 high and move to shipping for their access to load
  • Performs preventative maintenance checks on the scrubber every morning and at the end of the shift, ensuring that wet floors are identified by signage
  • Checks all aisles for trash and debris that will harm the scrubber and remove prior to sweeping and cleaning. Checks chemical storage area for any material release

Education Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
