Job Description

Senior – Level Role: Works independently within established procedures associated with the specific job function. Has gained proficiency in multiple competencies relevant to the job. Typically requires 6 – 10 Years of related experience. Performs preventive maintenance and skilled repairs on complex equipment and systems (e.g., mechanical, electrical, HVAC). Evaluates and recommends equipment improvements to improve efficiency, capability, and yield. Performs equipment failure analyses (including preventive and unscheduled maintenance). Troubleshoots and diagnoses the more complex equipment problems. Prepares technical reports to document equipment modifications and equipment maintenance procedures. Oversee and review the work of lower-level technicians. Typically requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Typically reports to Supervisor or Manager. The primary function is the direct support of process equipment and assisting maintenance in performing complex troubleshooting and equipment improvements. Assist in evaluating existing processes and equipment, suggest and evaluate improvement alternatives, assist in validation activities if requested, and specify ongoing maintenance requirements. May assist in the direction of maintenance employees and/or coordinate activities of outside contractors. Act as a technical resource to the maintenance mechanics and escalate concerns to the supervisor when appropriate. Assumes a technical leadership role in responsibility by providing guidance and mentoring for less experienced mechanics as well as area engineers. Participates in the design and development of new equipment in conjunction with Engineering. Travel as needed for equipment review.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the successful completion of assigned maintenance tasks or process improvements. Integrates state of the art technology with existing equipment to improve the process. Keeps Supervisor fully informed of project status and technical issues.
  • Perform tasks and assignments for supervisor and complete in accordance with established schedules or timelines. Follow up on projects/assignments with minimum supervision. Participate in the maintenance huddles and maintenance improvement discussions as a key team member in respective area of support.
  • Plan, coordinate, install, and perform operational checkouts for equipment and processes in the assigned area of responsibility.
  • Perform maintenance, repair, complex troubleshooting, redesign, and enhancement of mechanical, electrical, and PLC programs.
  • Researches and initiates miscellaneous purchase requisitions for materials, spare parts, equipment, and services.
  • Troubleshoots and assists in repairs of equipment and processes in area of responsibility. Must make accurate and concise decisions or recommendations, with
  • Recommends timing appropriate for the situation, to supervisors regarding problem and review spare parts, specifications, SOP’s and preventative maintenance for equipment, processes in area of responsibility.
  • Train other plant personnel in specific procedures, methods, and operations regarding processes and equipment as directed.
  • Report evaluated test data in the form of verbal, written, electronic and formal presentations to supervisors and/or management for further input.
  • Perform due diligence of problem and research potential solutions within existing cGMP, cGDP guidelines, SOP’s, and plant policies by cost/effectiveness/ease of operation/clean design.
  • Adhere to & maintain up-to-date status on pertinent cGMPs, cGDP, SOP’s, and plant policies/rules/training. Reinforce safety practices and set an example for other employees.
  • Serve as technical resource for plant and corporate interactions as needed.
  • Assist in Operator or Mechanic coverage during unexpected absences of the when needed
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or required.
  • Overtime as required or requested depending on plant needs as requested by supervisor.

Knowledge & Skills

  • The position requires a high level of resourcefulness, self-starter, ability to work with minimal supervision, an ability to get things done by overcoming obstacles, anticipating, and resolving problems, making difficult compliant decisions, and finding a way to complete tasks through innovative actions in potentially different areas of the facility.
  • Able to interpret Engineering specifications and read engineering drawings. Must have thorough knowledge of basic mechanical and electrical principles and the ability to troubleshoot equipment and/or processes to optimize its performance.
  • Must exhibit and be able to demonstrate leadership capabilities and previous examples.
  • Should be qualified and proficient with plant processes and procedures such as Change Control, EAMS, iConnect, Agile Document Changes, drawing changes, etc.
  • Must show proficiency with knowledge/skills in the following: MS Office, PLC troubleshooting and mechanical systems. Strong mental alertness, verbal communication, and technical writing ability necessary.
  • Ability to exercise diplomacy in the leadership and direction of other employees is necessary. Must be flexible with work schedule and able to work overtime, weekends and adjust their work schedule on short notice, when needed to support plant operations or when requested by their supervisor.
  • Required to become Qualified Fellow Employee (QFE).
  • Candidate must pass the technical skills test.

Manages complex people-related situations comfortably, aligning other to ensure seamless collaboration across the organization (3).   • Continuous Improvement - Member of a Project team or improvement champion whom others call upon to cascade improvement ideas. Subject Matter Expert in Equipment Breakdown Root Cause Analysis, sharing knowledge with colleagues across all shifts and platforms. Leads Quick Improvement events and drive sustainment efforts, promoting inclusion of diverse experiences across multiple platforms
  • Principles of Operation - Assist’s others and transfer knowledge on the operation of complex equipment across multiple platforms. Develops and amend technical training and troubleshooting guides.

Minimum Qualifications, Education & Experience

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • High School diploma or equivalent required. An associate or technical degree from an accredited college, trade school, or university is preferred
  • Minimum Six years’ military or industrial maintenance, electrical, or HVAC systems experience required.

Work Environment

  • Work environment can range from clean room and proper gowning requirements to a production area that is open, potentially noisy, and with moving equipment.
  • Must be able to lift max of 50 lbs. unassisted, be able to lift and move equipment/parts up to 600 lbs. assisted.
  • Must be able to climb, stoop, bend, kneel and stand for prolonged periods to repair equipment.
  • Typically requires travel less than 5% of the time
