Job Description

DEME is looking for a USV Operator to operate the Dolphin unmanned survey vessel remotely from our control room in Blankenberge, Belgium.

In this role, you will combine your nautical expertise with innovative remote vessel operations. Working in a 2 weeks on / 2 weeks off rotation, you will be responsible for the safe and professional operation of the USV from shore, including the basic mechanical maintenance of the vessel.

It is an opportunity to remain closely connected to maritime operations while working with innovative survey technology and a new way of operating vessels.

Your responsibilities

  • You remotely operate the Unmanned Survey Vessel from the control room in Blankenberge in Belgium.
  • You maintain a safe navigational watch and monitor the vessel throughout operations.
  • You use your nautical knowledge and experience to assess navigational situations and support safe vessel movements.
  • You monitor the vessel’s position, course and operational status from the control room.
  • You respond appropriately to changing navigational and operational conditions.
  • You perform some mechanical maintenance when necessary.
  • You communicate clearly with the relevant operational teams and stakeholders during USV operations.
  • You work according to DEME’s safety standards and operational procedures.
  • You contribute to reliable and efficient USV operations and help further develop this innovative way of working.

Your profile

  • You hold a valid STCW II/1 Officer in Charge of a Navigational Watch certificate. This is a mandatory requirement for the position.
  • You have a solid maritime background and a strong understanding of safe navigation and watchkeeping.
  • You are comfortable working with digital systems and remotely operated technology.
  • You are safety-minded, alert and able to maintain concentration during vessel operations.
  • You remain calm and make sound decisions when operational circumstances change.
  • You communicate clearly and work well as part of an operational team.
  • You are willing to work from the control room in Blankenberge according to a 2 weeks on / 2 weeks off rotation system.
  • Experience with survey vessels, remote vessel operations or unmanned vessels is an asset.
