This position will craft exceptional user experiences and help drive the evolution of visual language standards and guidelines across a multi-brand enterprise design system. Leveraging their knowledge of user-centric best practices and UI skillset, they will help the team to build a scalable system with dynamic theming to meet the needs across product lines, services, and brands. This role will help to maintain and evolve current libraries and enable new branding and themes. You will help the team explore, experiment and produce usable artifacts with a focus on using generative AI. Artifacts will include illustration, photography and iconography.
The mission of the Enterprise Design Systems team is to set the bar for design system disciplines and define the processes, work output, platforms and tools that will bring efficiency and quality to product delivery. This team incubates new design patterns that represent the evolution of the brand in the digital product environment, and innovative experiential concepts that push the expectations of users in the health-focused digital ecosystem. The design system is intended to deliver cohesive and consistent design standards to all product lines associated with health plan and health services, and to expand to represent the voices of the direct customer, the client, and the provider.
Responsibilities
AI‑First Development & Automation
· Drive AI‑assisted development workflows using tools like Cursor IDE to accelerate design system engineering.
· Build and maintain automation scripts (TypeScript/Node) for tasks such as code generation, data transformation, CLI tools, and workflow orchestration.
· Create and optimize design‑to‑code automation pipelines using scripts, APIs, and AI agents.
· Conduct critical review and validation of AI‑generated code to detect errors, hallucinations, accessibility issues, or incorrect API usage.
· Develop reusable AI workflows, prompts, structured patterns, and templates for improving team productivity.
Design System Engineering
· Build and extend components using LIT/Web Components and TypeScript, ensuring alignment with system architecture and standards.
· Develop reusable React components, understanding hooks, props, state management, and framework differences (React vs. LIT).
· Apply and maintain design tokens (CSS custom properties), including semantic, primitive, and fallback token strategies.
· Contribute to strengthening design-system‑aligned automation across component creation, documentation, and validation.
Figma API & Design Tool Automation
· Use the Figma REST API for component extraction, style retrieval, asset generation, automation scripts, and integration with engineering workflows.
· Build or extend Figma plugins/widgets using TypeScript + JSX to support design-to-code and component automation workflows.
· Manage API authentication, rate limits, and webhooks to ensure robust integrations.
Accessibility (A11y) Implementation
· Implement accessible UI components with proper ARIA roles, states, keyboard navigation, and screen reader support.
· Ensure all automated and hand‑crafted component work adheres to WCAG 2.1 AA standards.
· Incorporate accessibility checks into AI automation workflows and code review processes.
AI Workflow Governance & Team Enablement
· Develop and maintain team-wide Cursor rules (.cursor/rules) to enforce coding standards, design conventions, and engineering best practices.
· Educate and enable team members on effective prompt engineering, validation steps, and automation usage.
· Proactively identify repetitive workflows and propose automation-first solutions for team-wide efficiency gains.
· Orchestrate multi‑agent AI pipelines, blending human oversight with automated generation and validation steps.
Innovation & Future‑Ready Capabilities
· Explore and contribute to emerging standards such as Model Context Protocol (MCP) and AI‑tooling integrations.
· Experiment with multi‑agent orchestration, chaining AI calls, and building semi-autonomous systems for productivity improvement.
· Continuously research evolving AI tooling, design-engineering automation opportunities, and integration improvements.
Required Experience
3–5 years of experience in front‑end engineering, design systems, AI‑assisted development, or automation scripting.
Strong proficiency in TypeScript/JavaScript, including building automation scripts, CLI tools, and handling async operations.
Experience with LIT/Web Components and/or React for building reusable component architectures.
Working knowledge of design tokens, CSS custom properties, and semantic/primitive token hierarchies.
Practical understanding of accessibility standards (ARIA, WCAG 2.1 AA), including keyboard navigation and screen reader support.
Regular use of AI coding assistants such as Cursor IDE for development workflows.
Ability to perform prompt engineering using techniques like few‑shot prompting, chain‑of‑thought, and constraint‑based prompting.
Capability to validate and review AI‑generated code, detecting hallucinations, incorrect logic, or unsafe patterns.
Experience creating or using reusable AI workflows, prompts, templates, or automation frameworks.
Familiarity with the Figma REST API for extracting components, styles, and automating design‑to‑code workflows.
Experience or willingness to learn Figma plugin/widget development using TypeScript + JSX.
Understanding of emerging standards such as Model Context Protocol (MCP) for AI/tool integrations.
Ability to design or maintain team‑wide automation governance using .cursor/rules or similar configurations.

Required Education
Bachelor’s or Master's degree in relevant discipline or equivalent experience required
