Under the general direction of the Regional Controller, the US Accountant II is based in Bogotá, Colombia, and is responsible for performing US-focused accounting tasks and activities in accordance with US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP), company policies, and internal controls. This role supports US-based entities and works closely with US-based employees across Finance, FP&A, and other cross-functional teams. The position requires excellent English communication skills — written and verbal — as all day-to-day interactions, documentation, and reporting will be conducted in English.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and post journal entries, including accruals, reclassifications, and adjusting entries in support of the US monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close process.
  • Perform balance sheet and certain income statement GL account reconciliations on a monthly basis, investigating and resolving reconciling items in a timely manner.
  • Assist with the preparation of consolidated financial statements in accordance with US GAAP.
  • Maintain and update the monthly close checklist, ensuring all tasks are completed accurately and within established deadlines.
  • Prepare and analyze intercompany transactions and reconciliations across US entities.
  • Support the preparation of audit schedules and provide documentation for internal and external auditors.
  • Record and maintain fixed asset ledgers, including depreciation, disposals, and capital expenditure tracking in accordance with company policies.
  • Prepare bank reconciliations and investigate outstanding or aged items.
  • Assist with lease accounting in compliance with ASC 842 by ensuring all active leases are accurately captured in LeaseCalcs, maintaining up-to-date lease schedules, and preparing related journal entries.
  • Support accounts payable and accounts receivable processes as needed, including vendor setup, invoice processing, and payment reconciliation.
  • Prepare and submit Capital Expenditure Requests (CERs) in accordance with the company's CER policy, track approved CER spend against budget to ensure requests are not overspent, and proactively follow up with business stakeholders to confirm projected spend amounts and timing — partnering with the Finance Regional Manager to manage the full capital expenditure lifecycle from a finance perspective.
  • Prepare and distribute monthly financial reporting packages and variance analyses for North America region.
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and ad hoc financial analysis as directed by the Regional Controller or FP&A team.
  • Generate reports and prepare analyses from SAP or other ERP systems to support management decision-making.
  • Analyze general ledger accounts to ensure accuracy and completeness of financial data.
  • Perform other duties and ad hoc projects as assigned by management to support the needs of the finance team and broader organization.
  • Communicate and collaborate daily with US-based employees via email, Microsoft Teams, and video calls — all conducted in English.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and internal controls, and recommend solutions to management.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, SOX requirements, and US GAAP standards.
  • Complete all required training on company platforms and stay current with changes to accounting standards and regulations.
  • Maintain organized and accurate financial records and supporting documentation.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

Work experience:

  • Minimum of 3–5 years of directly related accounting experience, preferably supporting US-based operations.
  • Strong working knowledge of US GAAP.
  • Excellent English proficiency — must be able to read, write, and communicate fluently in English (C1 level or higher).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (advanced level), including XLOOKUP, pivot tables, and complex formulas.
  • Experience with SAP or a comparable ERP system.
  • Experience working in a multinational or shared services environment.
  • Familiarity with SOX compliance and internal controls.
  • Exposure to US tax concepts (sales tax, income tax provisions, etc.).
  • Knowledge of lease accounting under ASC 842.
  • Experience with financial consolidation and intercompany accounting.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Ability to work quickly and accurately under time and volume constraints, particularly during close periods.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Excellent organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in a remote, cross-border team environment.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build effective working relationships with US-based stakeholders.
  • Ability to take initiative, work independently, and manage competing priorities.
