JOB SUMMARY:
Join a collaborative team to design and implement a curriculum that nurtures students' academic growth. This role involves teaching five Upper School math classes, including but not limited to Precalculus, Calculus, or Statistics. Additionally, the successful candidate will serve as an academic advisor to a cohort of 12-14 upper school students and actively contribute to the Science, Mathematics, and Technology Department.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND TASKS:
Develop and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials, prioritizing active learning methods and, preferably, using the Understanding By Design framework.
Utilize appropriate technology to enhance and personalize instruction.
Maintain a conducive classroom environment by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures.
Engage in departmental, school, and parent meetings.
Regularly communicate student progress and needs to students, colleagues, and parents.
Set clear objectives for all learning activities and provide constructive feedback to students and parents.
Demonstrate proficiency in working with students from diverse backgrounds.
Engage in ongoing professional development opportunities.
Fulfill assigned supervisory duties.
Foster effective working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders.
Demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills.
Exhibit a commitment to continual professional growth and active participation in the school community.
QualificationsKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
BA or BS in Secondary Math Education or Math, and/or FL Math secondary state certification.
Completed or in-progress masters degree in math or education is preferred but applicants with successful teaching experience are encouraged to apply.
Teaching experience, preferably in an Upper School, or relevant classroom experience is recommended, independent School preferred.
A lifelong learner willing to balance past experience with the demands of a new environment.
Ability to work on multiple tasks and projects simultaneously, ensuring on-time delivery, accuracy and end-user satisfaction is expected.
A willingness to understand and support the schools mission and vision, as well as recognize impact the climate and culture of the school have on the work of the Upper School.
Demonstrate an understanding of the needs of various constituencies within the school community and the skills and attitude to deliver an exemplary experience to all stakeholders.
Work in a fast-paced, stressful environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of contacts.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
May work long hours for extended periods of time.
Ability to lift up to 30 pounds on occasion.
Works in varied and changing weather conditions, including extreme heat.
