Job Description

The Urodynamics Specialist at Associated Medical Professionals of NY (AMP) manages the Urodynamics procedural area and assists the physician in the analyzation of symptoms and problems with the urinary tract through testing of the bladder function. Performs specialized investigative techniques using highly advanced urodynamic measuring equipment on patients with genitourinary problems in order to study, record, and assist the physician in the diagnosis and treatment of urological disorders. Provides specialty-nursing patient care in an environment where quality, respect, and compassion are at the center of all we do.

Essential Functions:

Administrative

  • Performs UDS across the AMP offices, with primary employment in the Syracuse office.
  • The RN/LPN directs the provider patient schedule throughout the day.
  • The RN/LPN greets patients and visitors in a prompt, courteous and helpful manner and escorts the patient to the examination room.
  • Schedules patient appointments and medical procedures (x-rays and diagnostic testing) in the EMR under the direction of the medical staff.
  • Is responsible for stocking and ordering of medical supplies and checking expiration dates. Maintains inventories and anticipates needs based on upcoming patient schedules.
  • Maintains work area in a neat and orderly manner making sure that examination rooms are set up for the day (stocking supplies, cleaning, changing solutions).
  • Prepares room and equipment for urodynamic studies. All equipment is cleaned after use per protocol and is in good working order with a current biomedical inspection sticker.
  • Prepares the patient for testing with a focus on providing compassionate care.
  • Responsible for completing, in a timely manner, all AMP training and in-services, including but not limited to annual Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) training.
  • Participates in ongoing educational activities related to professional issues.
  • Assists with training of clinical support staff to perform all aspects of UDS, as needed.
  • Travel may be required to support scheduling needs across the organization. Compensation is provided for travel between office locations during the workday.
  • Participates in daily operational activities necessary for a safe patient care environment.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Clinical

  • After proper identification of the patient by full name and birthdate, the RN/LPN will greet patients in the waiting area and escort them to the clinical care area for which their appointment is scheduled. Once the patient is placed in the exam room, the RN/LPN assists in placing all personal belongings in the appropriate place in the exam room. Update the medical EMR record, obtaining patient weight, vital signs, and medication list.
  • Prepares patients for testing by explaining the urodynamic procedure and operates procedure by using asepsis technique.
  • Perform and/or assist the provider with specialized bladder function tests, collecting data, specimens and/or printed results for the provider to interpret.
  • Administer urinary catheterizations and inserting drainage tube irrigations.
  • Reinforce instructions to patients regarding appropriate post-procedure care and limitations.
  • Perform indwelling catheter placement and exchanges as needed.
  • Perform straight catheterization as needed.
  • Administers medications as needed, within scope of practice.
  • Collaborates with team and other disciplines to formulate solutions for potential and real problems.
  • Sets up the necessary machines to measure and record the following procedures: urinary flow rate, cystometrograms, pressure flow studies, urethral pressure profile, EMG of pelvic floor.
  • Maintain EMR records of all patients having urodynamic studies and records procedures performed; prepares a report for the ordering provider on all studies performed during each shift
  • Maintains the Urodynamics Room, equipment, and supplies in good working condition.
  • Documents all nursing interventions performed using the EMR, including date, time, and medications (dosage, site, adverse reactions, type of administration, etc.).
  • Reports any adverse events, including to medications, to supervising provider.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Education / Licensure / Experience:

Current New York State LPN or RN Licensure required with a minimum of 2 years Urology or GYN nursing experience preferred.

Current CPR certification

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

Knowledge of current principles of nursing practice and procedures for the delivery of medical care; Knowledge of patient care charts; Ability to prepare and process laboratory samples using established protocols; Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community; Ability to organize and prioritize work assignments with attention to detail; Knowledge of health care field and medical office protocols/procedures; Knowledge of quality, safety, and infection control standards; Basic PC skills including word processing; Knowledge and skill in the use of an EMR system.

Salary Range: Please note that the hourly range for this position will vary based on experience level, education and geographical location.

$22.00 - $34.00 / hour
