Emergency Registered Veterinary Technician
Veterinary Technicians are valuable members of our medical team. VeterinaryTechnicians play a crucialrole in patient care and client service. You will work closely with doctors and technicians toincrease efficiency within our hospital as well as the level of care we provide as a team. Responsibilities
- Animal handling and restraint
- Assist doctors and fellow technicians with medical treatments, diagnostic tests, and procedures.
- Obtain health history from clients, ensuring documentation is accurate and complete.
- Financial discussion with clients including estimates and inputting invoices.
- Administer treatments as prescribed by doctor including sedations, assisting in surgery
- Work scheduled days with ER doctors
- Work directly with other nurses and doctors to provide advanced patient care.
- Fill medication through in hospital pharmacy or written prescription.
- Complete treatment plans on the whiteboard for continual patient care.
- Triage patients
- Clean exam room and replenish inventory as needed
- Communicate effectively with clinical team and clients
- Reviewing medications, relaying treatment plans and discharge instructions with clients
Skills and Qualifications:
- Proper knowledge of common diagnostic testing, oral and injectable medications
- VACSP holder or RVT preferred
- Ability to draw blood, place sterile IVC and calculate/administer injectable medications
and fluid therapies
- Basic medical math skills
- Knowledge of common side effects of medications prescribed by the doctor
- Use of Cubex and its functions
- Understand trends of vitals and know treatments for complications
- Work well under high pressure situations
- Quickly adjust treatment plans with the doctor and implement emergency treatments as needed
- Knowledge of complex medical math including CRI’s
Requirements
4/10 Alternative workweek andweekends and holiday if scheduled.
- 1-yearprofessional experience as a veterinary assistantpreferred
- Must possess excellent communication skills, the ability to solve problems and handle multipletasks
- Must have the ability to adjust to changes in the environmentand be able to handle stress in a calmmanner
- Must be a team player, have patience and maintain a positive attitude.
- Must be detail oriented due to the high level of quality medicine.
- Must be able to lift and restrain pets of at least 40 pounds, and work on feet most of the day
