The Role
We are seeking an experienced Urgent Care Clinical Lead to provide on-site clinical leadership and support the State Clinical Director in delivering safe, high-quality urgent care services.
This is a leadership position suited to an experienced VR GP who is passionate about clinical excellence, mentoring clinicians and driving continuous improvement. Working closely with operational leaders, nursing teams and medical practitioners, you will strengthen clinical governance, support workforce engagement and ensure the delivery of safe, efficient and patient-centred care.
This role includes 2–3 hours per week of dedicated non-clinical leadership time and is coupled with an Urgent Care Doctor locum contract, including a minimum commitment of clinical shifts at the centre, with at least one evening and one weekend shift per rostered month.

Your Responsibilities
• Provide visible clinical leadership and act as the primary clinical escalation point for complex presentations, incidents and patient safety concerns.
• Support safe, evidence-based clinical practice by embedding organisational policies, clinical pathways and governance frameworks.
• Mentor, coach and support Urgent Care doctors to promote clinical excellence and professional development.
• Foster strong communication across medical, nursing and administrative teams to build an engaged and collaborative culture.
• Partner with Practice Managers and Nurse Managers to optimise patient flow, manage operational challenges and improve service efficiency.
• Monitor clinical performance, patient experience, productivity and workforce trends to drive continuous improvement.
• Conduct clinical audits, review documentation and support compliance with accreditation and contractual requirements.
• Identify, investigate and escalate clinical incidents, complaints and risks while ensuring timely resolution and closed-loop feedback.
• Support recruitment, onboarding and retention of Urgent Care doctors in collaboration with the Clinical Workforce and Recruitment teams.
• Assist in maintaining accreditation standards by overseeing clinical governance activities, audits and holding files.
• Promote GP wellbeing by identifying concerns early and facilitating appropriate support.
• Contribute to achieving Urgent Care performance measures, including clinical quality, patient experience, workforce stability and operational KPIs.
• Participate in clinical leadership meetings and collaborate with State and Regional leadership teams to improve service delivery.
• Champion workplace health and safety by promoting safe work practices and reporting incidents, hazards and risks in accordance with organisational policies.
About You
• Vocationally Registered General Practitioner (VR GP) with unrestricted AHPRA registration.
• Current Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification or equivalent (or willingness to maintain).
• Minimum two years' experience post-fellowship, with previous Emergency Medicine or Urgent Care experience highly regarded.
• Previous leadership, supervision or clinical management experience is desirable.
• Demonstrated experience supporting clinical governance, quality improvement and clinician development.
• Strong understanding of clinical risk management, incident investigation and patient safety.
• Ability to analyse clinical and operational data to improve performance and patient outcomes.
• Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement and influencing skills.
• Strong commercial awareness with the ability to balance clinical excellence and operational performance.
• Passionate about mentoring clinicians, fostering teamwork and building a positive clinical culture.
