Job Description

The University of Chicago's Department of Medicine, Section of Emergency Medicine, is seeking full-time faculty members at any rank to serve as Medical Directors for three Urgent Aid Centers in Tinley Park, IL, Flossmoor, IL and Calumet City, IL. The Medical Directors provides strategic and operational leadership for the Urgent Aid Centers, including oversight of clinical quality, patient safety, staffing models, and provider engagement. They work collaboratively with hospital and departmental leadership to ensure seamless integration of urgent aid services within the broader emergency medicine enterprise, advancing service line growth, operational efficiency, and alignment with institutional goals. The appointees will maintain an active clinical practice within the Urgent Aid Centers, delivering high-quality, patient-centered care for a diverse patient population. The appointees model best practices for advanced practice providers and faculty physicians in the urgent care setting, emphasizing efficiency, safety, and patient experience. Other activities include teaching of trainees and students, as well as scholarly activity. Academic rank and compensation will be dependent upon qualifications.

The Urgent Aid Centers serve as a high-access, community-based entry point to the health system, providing timely evaluation and treatment for lower-acuity conditions while ensuring seamless referral to emergency or specialty care when needed. These centers strengthen patient access, enhance care coordination, and reduce unnecessary emergency department utilization. They also offer opportunities for innovation in outpatient emergency medicine, quality improvement, and the development of best practices in urgent care delivery.

The appointees will join an academic faculty who are active in research, medical education, simulation, international medicine, EMS/prehospital medicine and air-medical transport.

Prior to the start of employment, qualified applicants must: 1) have a medical doctorate or equivalent, 2) hold or be eligible for medical licensure in the State of Illinois, and 3) be board certified or eligible in Emergency Medicine.
