We are looking for a Freelance Senior Designer to support our Menswear Design team here at Urban Outfitters.

This is a great opportunity to to develop innovative, commercial collections for our UK and European markets. In this fast-paced role, you will collaborate closely with buying teams to deliver directional, fast-react products that resonate with our authentic, forward-thinking community.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Developing an innovative, yet commercial range that primarily meet business requirements across the UK and Europe for stores and online, whilst continually exceeding expectations and exciting the Urban core customer and the wider marketplace alike.
  • Designing a ‘complete’ range which demonstrates an awareness of price architecture, margin expectation, competitive RRP’s and covers all seasonal ‘fashion’ and core ‘callouts’.
  • Working closely with senior members of the design team to create seasonal trend stories which follow specific brand sensibilities, colour palettes, print direction and departmental key items.
  • Due to the fast-paced nature of the business, the candidate must show that they can react quickly to ever evolving trends and portray this message effectively to buying and merchandising teams alike.
  • Whilst Urban Outfitters prides itself on its individuality and self-led trend direction, a level of knowledge and understanding of ‘high’ fashion trends, ‘underground street styles’ and wider ‘cultural movements’, must be shown and reported.
  • Building close working relationships with buying teams allowing a collaborative approach to defining and producing collections that reflect the ‘true’ Urban Outfitters concept whilst ensuring commerciality remains.
  • Keeping abreast of current season sales and in-turn, creating fast-react in-season product to meet demands.

What You'll Need

  • The understanding of Urban Outfitters as a trend maker and leader with the know how to take it to the next level.
  • Portfolio should be directional and aspirational whilst demonstrating an ability to interpret this ‘blue-sky’ thinking into a well-rounded, commercial range, relevant to the current market-place
  • Hand-drawing is a non-negotiable skill that must be demonstrated by the candidate.
  • Precision and accuracy must be shown from concept stage through to specs and final designs.
  • Proficient CAD – Illustrator/Photoshop skills.
  • A love, unwavering passion and drive for chosen field.
  • Individuality, creativity and style.
  • Proven track record of delivering in season product.
  • Excellent organisational skills with a strong ability to manage workloads and deadlines effectively
  • Excellent commercial acumen with the ability to identify new opportunities with exceptional communication and presentation skills at all levels.
  • Strong experience working with a global supply base and be willing/open to global travel.
