Job Description

The 2026 SCA Seattle Summer Urban Green Crew will work with local partners to do invasive species removal, trail work, and community garden maintenance. The majority of the crew's work will be in parks and community gardens in the Seattle area, except for two 1-week camping and working hitches to the North Cascades area (July 13-17 and July 20-24). SCA will provide all food, transportation, and gear for these trips. The crew will take part in environmental education and green job readiness activities throughout the program, including field trips throughout the region every Friday. The crew will be composed of students ages 14-18 (19 ok if just graduated), led by two adult crew leaders. Housing is not provided, except during the camping trips. At the end of the crew, on August 21st, all Urban Green program members along with friends and family will be invited to attend an end-of-season celebration to show off the crew's accomplishments from the summer.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Actively and safely participate to the best of your ability in conservation service tasks as assigned
  • This can include trail maintenance, gardening/farming, and invasive species management
  • Engage and contribute to environmental education and job readiness lessons and activities

Marginal Duties

  • Assisting with tool organization, cleaning, and inventory at the start or end of workdays
  • Supporting community outreach activities, such as helping with volunteer events or sharing program updates with partners
  • Contributing to daily check‑ins, debriefs, and team‑building activities

Required Qualifications

  • Applicants must be 14-18 years of age (up to 19 if just graduated high school) during the program dates
  • Must be currently in high school or a recent high school graduate
  • Must be located in the greater Seattle area (housing not provided)
  • Must be available for camping trips (July 13-17 and July 20-24)
  • Must be available for the ENTIRE program to be considered!! (7/6/26-8/21/26)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Interest in environmental conservation, outdoor work, or community service
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and contribute to a positive group culture

Housing not provided (must have housing in the Seattle area).

Compensation

$21.30/hour, 35 hours/week, 7 weeks

All allowances are subject to applicable federal, state, and local taxes.
