The Parks & Recreation Department is seeking two skilled and self-motivated individuals with a passion for arboriculture and ecological restoration. In this temporary assignment, you will be responsible for assisting the arboriculture and natural area crews in maintaining trees and natural areas, with a full range of supportive tree maintenance activities and for safely operating the city’s watering truck to irrigate newly planted trees and natural areas in various locations across the city.
If you have the following characteristics and qualifications, we want to hear from you:
Completion of Grade 12 (or equivalent) plus some related experience. Preference may be given to those who have completed training or courses in Forestry, Ecological Restoration, or Arboriculture.
Experience operating a 1-ton truck.
Experience working in the areas of arboriculture or natural areas restoration is considered an asset.Skill and knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the work.
Ability to follow the safety precautions required in the work.
Ability to effectively perform tasks with minimal supervision and to work independently at times.
Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with crew members and other City departments.
Ability to demonstrate and provide exceptional customer service skills.
Ability to perform manual/physical labour and to work in all weather conditions.
Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License and clean driver’s abstract.
Must be able to pass and maintain a clear Police Information Check.
Available to work a flexible work schedule as required.
Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
Possess competent teamwork skills when necessary and have the ability to communicate effectively, particularly when dealing with the public.
Complete the work in all weather conditions requiring sufficient physical strength, stamina and coordination.
The successful candidate must be able to pass and maintain a clear Police Information Check.
The successful candidate must have a valid BC Drivers’ License and clean driver’ abstract.
*There are two assignments available with the following start dates: Start date 1: As soon as possible to October 15, 2026.
Start date 2: May 1 to October 15, 2026
*Candidates may be assigned to work as a Truck Driver 1 as required.
