  • Band 6 - salary commencing at $50.89 per hour + 12% superannuation (commensurate with experience)
  • Monthly RDO available

The Opportunity

We are seeking a passionate and talented Urban Designer to help create vibrant, healthy and inclusive places for our growing community. You will play a key role in shaping the future of Moonee Valley through the planning and design of high-quality public spaces, streetscapes and activity centres.

Working within the Growth and Economic Development team, you will contribute to strategic planning projects, provide specialist urban design advice and support the delivery of high-quality place-based outcomes that enhance liveability, community wellbeing and design excellence across the municipality.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Urban Designer who is passionate about creating well-designed, sustainable and inclusive places that deliver meaningful outcomes for our community and support the future growth of Moonee Valley.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare urban design and landscape policies, frameworks, studies, guidelines and other strategic documents that support high-quality public realm and place-based outcomes.
  • Provide specialist urban design and landscape advice, assessments and recommendations to support planning referrals, permit applications and development outcomes.
  • Support strategic planning projects by providing expert advice on streetscapes, public realm improvements, activity centres, urban activation and place-making initiatives.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary project teams and working groups, contributing urban design and landscape expertise to achieve integrated project outcomes.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with internal stakeholders, government agencies, consultants and community representatives.
  • Contribute to the delivery of projects that support Council's strategic objectives, including improved liveability, accessibility and community wellbeing.
  • Assist in the management of external consultants and contractors to ensure project outcomes are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Prepare clear and concise reports, presentations, design documentation and strategic recommendations for a range of audiences.
  • Support the delivery of design excellence through evidence-based urban design practices and innovative thinking.

Skills & Experience

  • Tertiary qualification in Urban Design, Town Planning, Landscape Architecture, Architecture or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience as an Urban Designer within local government, state government and/or private industry.
  • Experience contributing to strategic plans, urban design frameworks, policies and guidelines that deliver positive community and place-based outcomes.
  • Sound understanding of urban design principles, public realm design, place-making and the factors influencing successful urban development outcomes.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills, with the ability to work effectively across different teams.
  • Well-developed graphic, written and verbal communication skills, including experience preparing reports, presentations and design documentation.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Adobe Creative Suite, including InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and competing deadlines.
  • Experience working within local government will be highly regarded.
  • Current Victorian Driver's Licence and Working with Children Check are desirable.
