Job Description

This position is for a substitute aide for preschool at the Wyoming County YMCA. It is minimum wage and you may be asked to fill in with little notice.

Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Executive Director, the UPK Aide is responsible for guiding and nurturing preschool students. To assist the UPK teacher in supervising program participants and ensuring their safety and success.

Essential Functions:

  1. Assist teachers with the implementation of curriculum within the established guidelines. 2. Assist the UPK teacher in implementing daily lesson/activity plans. 3. Supervises the children, classroom and all activities. 4. Maintains positive relationships and effective communication with parents. 5. Maintains program site and equipment. 6. Responsible for the health, welfare and safety of participants. 7. Attends and participates in family nights, program activities, staff meetings and staff trainings.

Qualifications:

  1. Valid New York state Drivers License 2. At least 18 years of age. 3. Child Abuse Prevention training and Employee Sexual Harassment training are required at hire for which you will be paid 3.5 hours. CPR, First Aid, AED certifications within 30 days of hire date provided by the YMCA at no cost to you. 4. Minimum of 6 months previous experience working with preschool age children. 5. Previous experience working with children in a developmental setting preferred. 6. Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities. 7. Previous experience with diverse populations. Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.

Physical Demands:

Ability to plan, lead and participate in activities.
