To assemble precision aircraft seats, cut upholstery material, upholster aircraft assemblies and print
letters, numbers and other markings for production aircraft parts. May be required to assist lower graded
operators.
Job Responsibilities:
• Performs a variety of diversified bench assembly, upholstery and fabrication of soft goods
operations on aircraft.
• Installation of control mechanisms, arm and head rests, seat belts, life vest, etc. Assembly and
disassembly operations on precision aircraft seats and makes adjustments for proper operation.
Requires the use of power tools, including air-powered and electric operated.
• Performs trimming, forming, and adjusting operations to complete interior components to exacting
standards. Requires knowledge of material characteristics and proper techniques of adhesive
applications. May be required to mix own sealant and/or adhesives, which require the maintaining
of proper certifications.
• Marks and cuts upholstering material in accordance with patterns. May require minor decision
making involving judgment in cutting lines and pattern placement to avoid wasted material. May
require bonding operations. Uses hand shears, electric cutters and other machines in cutting
upholstery material.
• May be required to fabricate silk screen fixtures, photo foil operations and apply decals and other
adhesive markings. Exercises some judgment to position parts and maintain paint consistency.
May set up and operate engraver to cut letters. Coordinates with a variety of departments to
accomplish work. Cleans, stores and maintains silk screen equipment. Maintains a stock record
of parts, decals and silk screen printed items. Familiar with paint quality standards.
• May be required to build-up and repair fiberglass and composite panels to meet customer
requirements. May also perform minor rework of vendor parts.
• May operate appropriate cutting machinery. May require nesting and editing of certain machine
programs.
• Ability to read and write to interpret basic drawings. Ability to work from detailed instructions and
minor decision making.
• Responsible for the quality of own work
Education:
Must have a high school diploma, an equivalent certificate, or bronze level WorkKeys certification to
interpret blueprints, apply shop math, and use some measuring devices. May require maintaining
appropriate certification for mixing sealants and/or adhesives.
Experience:
Requires a combination of three (3) years’ experience in upholstery, bench upholstery, and/or mechanical
experience or must hold the Upholsterer C classification a minimum of three (3) years.
Working Conditions:
Good working conditions. May involve occasional exposure to heat, noise, paint fumes, solvents and dirt
