As an Automotive Upfit Technician, you will independently perform OEM accessory installations and vehicle customization on brand-new Ford vehicles in a professional automotive shop. You will complete advanced mechanical and electrical installations while ensuring every vehicle meets Ford and customer quality expectations before delivery to dealerships nationwide.

Salary Overview:

The pay rate for this role starts at $23 per hour based on experience.

Hours:

The hours for this role are Monday through Friday, 7 am to 4 pm.

Automotive Upfit Technician Responsibilities Include:

  • Perform advanced OEM accessory installations and vehicle customization on new Ford vehicles.
  • Install leather interiors (Katzkin), wheel and tire packages, suspension components, lighting systems, electrical accessories, graphics, trim packages, bed accessories, and other dealer-ordered upgrades.
  • Read and interpret installation manuals, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
  • Troubleshoot installation concerns and ensure proper fit, finish, and functionality.
  • Perform quality inspections before vehicles are released.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of completed work.
  • Assist in training and mentoring Automotive Upfit Technician I team members.
  • Complete assigned vehicle upfits within established labor times while maintaining exceptional workmanship.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Follow all company safety and quality standards.
  • Adhere to Suburban Automotive Services' DRIVEN values and support the company's mission and vision.

Automotive Upfit Technician Qualifications and Skills:

  • Minimum 2–5 years of automotive technician or mechanical installation experience.
  • ASE certifications preferred but not required.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Experience installing OEM or aftermarket accessories preferred.
  • Experience with suspension, wheels, lighting, trim, and interior installations preferred.
  • Ability to read wiring diagrams and installation instructions.
  • Ability to use hand tools, power tools, torque wrenches, and automotive shop equipment.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience using hand tools, power tools, vehicle lifts, and shop equipment.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work overtime when required.

Automotive Upfit Technician Working Conditions and Physical Demands Include:

  • Approximately 75% of the workday spent standing.
  • Frequent bending, kneeling, crouching, climbing, lifting, pushing, pulling, and reaching.
  • Working indoors in a professional automotive garage/shop environment.
  • Frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds.
  • Frequent use of vehicle lifts, hand tools, power tools, and specialty shop equipment.
  • Must be comfortable working around moving vehicles, automotive equipment, cleaning products, and an active shop environment.
