The Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC) invites motivated college students to join our Unpaid College Intern Chambers Track Program – Summer 2027 Cohort. This immersive, 9-week internship places you directly in the chambers of Appellate Division judges in Trenton.

REMOTE WORK: Some onsite work will be required. Remote work will be at the discretion of the Judge/Manager. To participate in this program, in addition to installing a multifactor authentication app on your phone or tablet, you will be required to have high speed home internet access.

Examples of duties

  • Observe courtroom proceedings and judicial decision-making processes
  • Assist judges and their staff with legal or other appropriate research
  • Attend conferences, hearings, and other court events
  • Participate in discussions about legal principles, case law, and judicial ethics

Selected candidates are expected to serve for the full duration of the summer program which will start on Monday, June 7, 2027, and conclude on Friday, August 6, 2027.

While preference will be given to candidates who are available for the entire 9-week program, applicants with limited availability may be considered for shortened unpaid legal opportunities depending on space and operational needs.

Qualifications

Students who are attending an accredited college or university and will have successfully completed three (3) years of college studies at the time the internship begins (3 years as of June 2027). Please check with your school regarding receiving credit for unpaid internship work experience.

Substantial legal research and writing experience is strongly preferred.

Unofficial College or University transcript must be included in your application in order to be considered.

Supplemental information

Special Note: Unpaid intern applicants who are 18 years of age or older must agree to a thorough background check that will include fingerprinting. All data received will be kept in strict confidence except to inform the individual of the findings and what action will be taken as a result of this information.

Physical Ability: For some positions, applicants must have the ability to perform work which requires climbing and prolonged standing, stretching, bending and reaching.

Driver's License: Appointee will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.

Authorization to Work: US citizenship is not required. Selected candidate must be authorized to work in the US according to Department of Homeland Security, US Citizenship and Immigration Services regulations.

Applications must describe all relevant work experience in detail, beginning with your current or most recent job, including military service (indicate rank), internships and job-related volunteer work, if applicable. Applicants who indicate "see resume" or enter their initials to acknowledge that they have skipped the Work History and Education sections will not be considered, unless they do not possess any education history or work experience. Only applicants that follow the application instructions and submit completed applications will be considered.
