Job Description

The UNIX LINUX System Engineer - Mid provides day-to-day administration of UNIX/Linux server infrastructure supporting the SEC ISS contract, SEC OIT mission operations, and HALSI/HPC service environments. This role maintains secure, stable server operations across physical and virtual environments, including imaging, patching, hardening, and automated deployment activities. The engineer supports ISS server management objectives in the PWS, including operational reliability and alignment with SEC security and compliance requirements. The position partners with senior engineers and operations teams to resolve incidents quickly, maintain service continuity, and maintain required ticketing and change-control records.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

UNIX/Linux Server Administration

- Administer UNIX/Linux serverson a daily basisto ensure availability, performance, and operational stability.

-Maintainserver hardware and operating system software across assigned environments.

- Build and image servers using approved imaging and provisioning tools.

- Execute routine maintenance activities, including updates, configuration changes, and lifecycle tasks.

Patching, Hardening, and Compliance

- Perform regular patching of UNIX/Linux systems tomaintainsecurity posture and platform currency.

- Apply server hardening standards and secure configuration baselinesin accordance withSEC policy direction.

- Perform automated deployments for approved UNIX/Linux server builds and updates.

-Maintaintechnical documentation and change-control records to support operational governance and audit readiness.

Virtualization and Automated Deployment

- Work primarily in virtualized infrastructure environments supporting UNIX/Linux guest systems.

- Support repeatable deployment and configuration activities for UNIX/Linux systems using approved enterprise methods.

-Assistwith operational monitoring and system health activities for virtual server environments.

- Coordinate with platform teams to implement approved infrastructure changes with minimal service disruption.

Troubleshooting and Operational Support

- Perform basic troubleshooting and restoration for UNIX/Linux server incidents and service issues.

- Escalate complex technical issues to Senior Administrators with clear diagnostics and impact details.

- Update incident, request, and change records in approved ticketing systems.

- Collaborate across infrastructure and operations teams to improve reliability and reduce repeat incidents.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

-This position is restricted to U.S. citizens only. Applicants must not hold dual citizenship with any other country to be eligible for work under this contract.

-Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering). In lieu of degree, additional experience may be required.

-Ability to obtain and maintain SEC Public Trust.

- Minimum 4 years of experience administrating servers and systems, specializing in UNIX/Linux operating systems oradditionalyear of experience can be considered in lieu of degree

- Mustpossessa Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) certification or equivalent.

- Experience with server imaging, patching, hardening, automated deployments, basic troubleshooting, and escalation in virtualized environments.

- Basic troubleshooting and escalation of complex issues to Senior Administrators

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) or higher-level Linux certification.

- Experience supporting federal IT environments with FISMA/NIST security and compliance requirements.

- Experience supporting HALSI/HPC operational environments.

- Experience with configuration management or scripting-based automation tools (e.g., Ansible or comparable tools).

Pay Range:

Pay Range $87,100.00 - $157,450.00
