Job Description

The Vehicle Evaluation & Verification (VEV) Engine Laboratory Department (ELD) is looking to fill an opening for a Unit Supervisor position at the Research and Innovation Center (RIC). The ELD Supervisor will be responsible for managing the operations for engine testing related to Calibration, Development, and Durability testing of Engines, Powertrains, and/or Transmissions. The individual must possess strong problem-solving skills, have demonstrated Ford OS Behaviors, and be able to understand the Engine Laboratory Department needs. This position is onsite full-time.

What you'll do...

  • Manage and direct the work of the Test Technicians & Technologists in support of engine testing operation at the Research and Innovation Center. This position covers RIC, ELD Fuel House, RIC, Fuel House, and Central Fuel House.
  • Provide day-to-day direction, workload priorities, and scheduling to meet/exceed performance and quality metrics and deliver Y-O-Y efficiency targets.
  • Manage the operation's workload fluctuations to optimize facility utilization, manpower efficiency, and satisfy program timing.
  • Direct and allocate resources to manage test workload and satisfy program timing.
  • Interface daily with ELD management on test schedule and work planning at the start of each shift. Provide written status of the work in progress at the end of each shift. Ensure effective and efficient communication across all shifts.
  • Interface with requesting activities to ensure tests are set up and executed properly.
  • Identify, develop, and implement training plans for Technicians and Technologists.
  • Prepare and conduct performance reviews for direct reports. Maintain and grow employee satisfaction indexes.
  • Maintain test equipment and systems. Coordinate repair of malfunctioning equipment.
  • Interface with Skilled Trades and Leads, as needed, to support ELD facilities and operations.
  • Improve Customer Satisfaction while advancing operational systems, processes and policies, and improve testing efficiencies.

Support all Health & Safety Initiatives for RIC:

  • Ensure that all regulatory and compliance standards and Health & Safety protocols are followed.
  • Support Safety Operating System (SOS) and Safety Process and Review Board (SPRB) for ELD.
  • Lead Safety Walkarounds of appropriate wing and participate in Safety Walkarounds with the HSE Engineer, as applicable.
  • Ensure that all responsible issues found are properly documented, resolved with short and long term solutions, and closed out in a reasonable amount of time.
  • Perform daily housekeeping and facility walkarounds for open items and project-related reviews, as well as support management level reviews.
  • Health & Safety Checklists for facility related projects and associated Risk Assessments Lead.

You’ll have…

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 5+ years of experience in testing Gasoline/Diesel Engines/Powertrains with dynamometers in one or more of the following categories: Development, Mapping, Durability, Certification, Powertrain and Environmental Development
  • 5+ years of experience working with general diesel and gasoline engine operation

This position is a salary grade 7 and ranges from $86,600-$144,900.

This position is a salary grade 8 and ranges from $99,100-$166,200.


Final determination of salary grade will be based on candidate's skills and experience, and base salary will be set within the applicable range according to job scope, responsibility and competitive market value.
