Unit Secretary - Emergency Department
Part Time - 24 hrs. Biweekly - 7pm-7am

You’ll play a vital part in patient safety and throughput initiatives by organizing unit activities, supporting clinical workflows, and maintaining the integrity of medical records. Our fast-paced Emergency Department is a MIEMSS Designated Level III Trauma Center, Primary Stroke Center, and Cardiac Interventional Center. We provide advanced emergency care to approximately 72,000 patients annually, including 3,800 trauma cases, utilizing cutting-edge technology and expertise. We specialize in the emergency treatment and stabilization of a broad spectrum of illnesses and injuries, including multi-system trauma, life-threatening medical conditions, general medical-surgical emergencies, orthopedic and neurological injuries, minor trauma, and psychiatric crises for both adult and pediatric patients.

Key Responsibilities

• Coordinate, organize, and prioritize unit activities to support patient safety and throughput
• Handle multiple simultaneous tasks and requests in a high-stress clinical setting
• Support the healthcare team by managing communications, documentation, and procedural coordination
• Maintain the integrity and accuracy of the medical record from admission through discharge
• Accurately enter and verify physician orders in the electronic health record (EHR) system (inpatient setting)
• Interact professionally with physicians, patients, visitors, and staff—often exceeding 100 unique interactions daily

Minimum Qualifications:

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Completion of an accredited business or medical assistant course, or equivalent experience required

Experience

• Familiarity with medical terminology, clerical-level typing, and Windows-based applications preferred
