Performs general clerical and receptionist duties incidental to work on patient care unit, including preparing, compiling and maintaining records in nursing unit.

Job Responsibility

  • * Performs a variety of duties relative to admission, discharge and/or transfer of patients.
    • Prepares patient charts, laboratory and x-ray slips, etc for new admissions.
    • Enters into Keane and then distributes to appropriate departments, assembles patient charts and forwards completed chart to Medical Records within established time interval.Notifies assigned departments when patients are admitted, discharged, transferred, placed on “Everyday List” , expired, etc.
  • * Performs a variety of clerical duties required to maintain accurate charts during patient stays.
    • Files appropriate paperwork such as Medicare forms including the IMN form, and all other forms into chart.
    • Assists patients sign-up for the “Patient Portal” (if they do not already have an account.)
  • * Performs a variety of clerical duties essential to operation of patient care unit, as directed.
    • Contacts Transport team to send patients for special tests, transportation, treatment consultations, etc.
    • Prepares a variety of records and reports, such as daily census and attendance report.Communicates to the team specific procedures that patients are scheduled for each day.
    • Ensures “isolation signs are utilized for patients assigned to isolation rooms.
    • Maintains neat and orderly bulletin and locator boards for unit; posts and removes information from bulletin board.
    • Notifies supporting departments of needs and/or changes on patient units.
    • Ordering of supplies needed on unit
  • * Acts as a receptionist on unit.
    • Provides information and directs visitors.
    • Uses appropriate telephone etiquette and knowledge of telephone system to facilitate communication of the patient units.
    • Assists visitors Answers routine questions or refers to appropriate individual for reply.
    • Receives and transmits messages accurately and promptly.
    • Answers call bells.Participates in proactive rounds to ensure that the patients' needs are being met.
    • Acts as an Ambassador of the hospital to patients and visitors and as such is appropriately attired and promotes good public relations.
    • Participates in computer rounds to ensure that required technology is working on the unit.
  • * Provides coverage where needed at the request of supervisory staff.
  • * Participates in Collaborative Councils.
  • Performs related duties, as required.

Job Qualification

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
  • Prior related experience, preferred.
  • Typing 30 wpm and/or data entry skills (80 keystrokes per minute), required
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
