Unit Clerk II – Emergency Department

📍 Location: Elkton, Maryland
đź•’ Schedule: 7 a.m. - 7:30 p.m.

Join our Emergency Department team as a Unit Clerk II, where you’ll play a critical role in supporting patient care and ensuring smooth department operations. In this fast-paced environment, you’ll serve as the communication hub between patients, families, clinicians, and external partners—helping deliver timely, compassionate, and coordinated care.

What You’ll Do

Communication & Coordination

  • Manage incoming and outgoing calls with professionalism and urgency
  • Relay information accurately between patients, nurses, physicians, and external agencies
  • Initiate emergency communications (e.g., overhead trauma alerts, code activations) following established protocols
  • Coordinate with registration, ancillary departments, and care teams to support patient flow

Patient & Visitor Support

  • Welcome and assist patients and visitors; issue visitor passes in accordance with hospital policy
  • Support quick registration workflows and obtain consent-to-treat documentation
  • Verify and update patient demographics, insurance, and pharmacy information

Administrative & Clerical Support

  • Perform admission, discharge, and transfer (ADT) functions in electronic systems
  • Maintain accurate patient charts and documentation
  • Prepare and distribute records, forms, and physician-requested reports
  • Complete insurance-related documentation, including orthopedic equipment forms

Compliance & Safety

  • Protect patient confidentiality and ensure HIPAA compliance
  • Follow all departmental safety protocols and report concerns promptly
  • Adhere to organizational policies and customer service standards

Team & Department Support

  • Assist with onboarding and training of new team members
  • Participate in department committees and process improvement initiatives
  • Support administrative follow-ups, including correspondence with outside providers and agencies

What We’re Looking For

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum of 2 years of clerical, administrative, or related experience
  • Experience in a healthcare or patient-facing environment preferred
  • Strong communication, multitasking, and organizational skills
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment
  • Proficiency with computers and electronic health systems (EHR)

Hours are 7 a.m. - 7:30 p.m. with a scheduling requirement of every other weekend and every other holiday.

Hourly Pay Range: $18.19 - $26.37This pay rate/range represents ChristianaCare’s good faith and reasonable estimate of compensation at the time of posting. The actual salary within this range offered to a successful candidate will depend on individual factors including without limitation skills, relevant experience, and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements.
